Ultrasound past 25 weeks

I was told that for the doctor to get an accurate reading on my baby that an ultrasound needed to happen before 24 weeks. My last on was at 18. Is it true that they can't see everything because the baby gets too big past 24? She said they need another one because the baby was too small.

My baby girl has been sneaky from the get go :/ i had an anatomy scan at 19 weeks they couldn't really tell the sex so i had another one at 23 weeks and she was still shy i had to roll onto my side and it took a while to find her girly bits :'

Did she say the baby was too small from the fundal height measurements, or from the 18w u/s you had? With my first I was always measuring too small, so they gave me extra u\s and even after that they kept telling me the baby was too small. Well, my daughter was 8lb 6oz so I really don't put much stock in the whole measuring system..

Yes the further along you get it can be harder to get measurements because baby is too big. I've had 7 ultrasounds since 11 weeks & each time it gets a little more tricky to see everything because he only has so much room in there. If they can't measure something this time because baby isn't cooperating they will have you come back again or empty your bladder or roll on your side.

If they are trying to evaluate the baby's anatomy, which usually happens at 18 weeks, then yes. .. you need another ultrasound before 24 weeks. It's possible that the baby was small or not in a great position to evaluate all the structures. If you wait until after 24 weeks,  the baby has a lot less room and again some structures may not be easily evaluated.

To get an accurate reading on due date and fetal age,  it needs to be done early.  So if they're having to judge the baby's size and compare it to a clear age of the baby,  that ship has sailed already.

But if they already did an early ultra sound and have a really good idea of gestational age,  more ultrasounds to determine of your baby is keeping up with average size will be useful.

I think you may have misunderstood what she was saying.  The baby doesn't get "too big" to see.
