questions about cats

For all you ladies who have had babies and cats at the same time, how did your cat adjust? I'm only slightly worried that my cat will not adjust well to a new baby. He has always been the baby, always gets greeted the second we walk through the door and gets held by my fiance every day. He can also be kinda angry at times. He gets irritated if you pet him too long or the wrong way. He even hissed at my neighbors 8 year old girl. I guess I'm just wondering what I should do when the time comes. Should I keep him away from the baby, let him get to know the baby? I know we're going to try to give him as much attention as possible but I'm worried he'll get jealous.

My cats did just fine with my kids. It was like they understood that they were just babies and didn't know better if they got their tails pulled or whatever.

Thanks for the advice. We're transforming our smaller second bedroom into a nursery. It's currently still the man cave and the cat is always in there with my fiance so it nay be hard to get him to adjust to not being allowed in there. I think once we start putting the nursery together I'll let the cat in to see what's in there and what's going on.

I have 2 cats and am expecting my first baby in June. I planned on introducing the cats to the bassinet in the next couple of weeks so that it becomes old news. I also want to bring home a blanket with baby's scent on it so they can get used to his smell before they meet him. Smell is very important for animals, they are curious about new smells and cats seem especially sensitive to new smells and objects, so I'm hoping by introducing the cats to the new items and smells slowly it will minimalize chances of negative reactions. I'd be interested in hearing other's experiences as well.
