Seriously Concerned

My friend is now 25 weeks pregnant and she used meth one time during her pregnacy at 3 months 3 weeks. She is no longer a user, she only tried it once! But from now till then she hasn't done anything and doesn't plan on using anything anymore! EVER! Will that one time cause her to lose her child? Will the child be okay? and Will they be able to detect that one time use in any drug tests or baby's system?

Your "friend" is selfish. I feel awful for that baby.

Cocaine back then and meth in this day and age are so far apart it's like comparing apples to sea lions. My cousin used meth while pregnant in every pregnancy and lost all her children but the last. The worst was her first, who had issues the moment she was born and still does and she's 6, and she had to go through detox herself. The next also had to be rid of the drugs but was less effected because the mother was sent to jail halfway through the pregnancy. Her last child she stopped using in the first trimester because she was imprisoned for the remaining 7months. That baby also got tested and came back positive with the drug still in his system but low enough she got to keep that one as she herself went through rehab while in prison. She then got tested randomly and regularly whenever the courts demanded for a year in order for her to keep that baby. Good luck to your friend. I don't care if she has a mental disease. If what you say is true and she hasn't touched it since then I'd bet she doesn't really have a true mental disease and is just weak minded. She doesn't deserve that baby regardless if she knew she was pregnant or not and took the drug. And I believe the same for my cousin. 3 kids, 2 in foster care and she has one. Her obgyn needs to know regardless of anything else. That baby may have issues or may need to go through detox itself and she needs to start making better decisions now and one of them is tattle on herself to ensure her baby will get the best care from this point on.

Ok she was around 15 weeks when she used it does not state that she actually knew she was pregnant maybe her friend didn't word it the best and no they will not find a trace if baby is born around full term my mother didn't know she was pregnant with me and did cocaine 3 times during the first trimester when she finally found out she stopped right away and I do not have problems from her drug use and it didn't show when they tested me however if she still uses and you find out you should report it to her doctor cause they can get her into a treatment center while pregnant to get her the help she needs just because I have no problems doesn't mean every child is as lucky as I got and to be honest if it was truly only one time and her first time it was most likely a very small amount that hopefully did not affect the baby

I find a few of your statements highly unlikely.... You don't randomly try meth once and are then completely clean and straight afterwards.  Either she is lying and is still using or she is using something else.  She needs to inform her doctor and when they discover she is still using, plans should be put in place to find another home for the baby.  "Trying" such a hard core drug when you are 3 months pregnant with no other history and claiming to never do it again..... sounds fishy to me!  A sad situation.

Maybe she should have thought of those questions before doing meth. Just my opinion.

People who aren't addicts don't try method while they're pregnant.  She has a disease. It doesn't make what she did ok but that has implications in terms of underlying reasons and what is needed to correct the problem.  I hope that you never end up in that boat personally but if someone you love ever has a substance problem,  I hope you truly look into it in more depth.

I wouldnt shame anyone for having diabetes or cancer.. but for trying meth for the first time while knowingly being pregnant is different. And I'm not shaming her to try to get her to change or stop using. The fact that she did it and it's been done.. proves she does not put that baby before drugs.. She obviously knew what she was doing and how can anyone not think that would affect the baby.. Selfish! But yes she sure does have mental probs and should not be trusted with a baby.. Hopefully the doctors find out and I'm sure they wouldn't just let it go.. If they do find out I'm sure she'll be monitored or something. Which she should be!  This really gets to me bc there are women out there who would do anything to be able to have and love their own baby but can't get pregnant.. and then there's people like this.. Who knowingly put their babies lives in real jeopardy with their selfish acts.

Actually,  ashley0891, it is the same thing. This is a scientific fact agreed upon by doctors and governments around the world, not my personal opinion.

I'll speak for an unborn baby any day. Just like I do with abortions. That baby has no voice so someone needs to take up for him or her. either way the mother needs help

Definitely not the same thing as someone having diabetes or cancer..

One thing we all agree on at least.. She needs help!

Yes she knew what she was doing.  But it's more complicated than that because we're talking about about a physical disease of the brain,  not simply a moral issue.  You can't shame someone into not having diabetes or cancer,  and is this is the same thing.  It's scientific fact,  not my opinion.

I really believe she should talk to her ob gyn  about this so they can be aware when she delivers the baby and she needs to seek some counseling  now  seems like she have some issues to try meth when she is pregnant

You're misinformed. Shaming someone with a substance problem will make them use more. Is that what you're after? Shame literally never gets someone to change,  which is why they don't put dunce hats in children in school anymore.

To the op, there's no way to know right now.  Baby will have to be born and meet developmental milestones to know s/he's ok.

Wow ladies, so much judgement.  I'm certainly not condoning it but shaming her after the fact doesn't really accomplish anything at all.

She should talk to her doc about it.

I believe they test the baby's first poop in the hospital and ANYTHING the mother has done during any stage of pregnancy will show up. And I hope to God this baby gets a better mother because she obviously can't make clear decisions and probably doesn't hang out around the safest kind of people.

I hope they find traces of it somehow, any woman who "tries" a drug like that while being pregnant even once doesn't deserve to raise that child. Selfish is what it is.
