I took regular birth control pills, but was taken off due to a study that showed women who have migraines should not take estrogen as it increases their chances of having a stroke. So then there was the progesterone only pill (not very effective). Moved to the mirena...resulted in long, frequent periods, ovarian cyst that burst and painful intercourse. Got on depo, no weight gain for me and it stopped my period which was nice, but for me it drastically effected my milk production while breastfeeding. Lastly, I tried natural family planning...this worked for about three years for us, but one screw up and wah-lah...baby number three on the way. Going for tubal ligation this time!

I was on depo one time and wanted to eat all the time and had to stop so I wouldn't gain weight. I then got on lo orvil pill (something close to it and spelling). I didn't have a period at all and loved it. I set a timer on my phone and took it in the morning. Easy to get off of if want to have a baby and pregnant within months after. I am going to get it after I have my baby. I love not having a period!

I've never taken birth control, so I can't really answer your questions. However, both of our pregnancies were planned & we do not use condoms now either (after being together for years.) It is much easier to get pregnant after you have a baby, but it is also possible to not get pregnant by careful planning and calculation the same way you would if you were trying to get pregnant by charting ovulation.
It's a personal choice, but I just don't feel comfortable with all of the different side effects and the possibility of becoming infertile from all of the different brands and types. It's all trial & error when it comes to choosing the right one and the right dose for you because EVERYONE has a different body that will have a different response to any form of birth control.

I had implanon ( the one they put in ur arm ) I had it removed cuz for me my period lasted 2 months. I don't have money or patience for that. Lol. My friend has it and that didnt happen for her. It didnt hurt getting put it or anything. It was weird because you could feel it if you touched your arm where it was.

I had an IUD before this pregnancy & hope to have one again after. I have chronic migraine so am too sensitive to hormones to risk the mirena or implant. Been on the pill in the past but preferred the coil, I also like that I can just get it removed when ready to try for baby no 2. Had no problems conceiving this time after it was removed.

I had the mirena for 4 years. I didn't have a period, but found it almost impossible to lose weight. In the last four months it was in, I had horrible mood swings, acne, and put on 60 pounds,  even though I was running daily, don't eat processed food and generally maintain a healthy diet. I also lost a ton of hair. My mirena story is more nightmarish. Each person is different though. Since this is our last, my birth control is for my husband to have a vasectomy.

I would never trust depo provera. I know 2 women who carried pregnancies and 1 who had a miscarriage on it. You have to talk to your Dr...it would also depend on if you plan to breastfeed.

I know it can be hard to remember to take a pill everyday, but it is the easiest to stop if your body doesn't agree with it. I also wonder how women know their body is in healthy working condition when they are taking something that prevents your body from its natural monthly cycle. Just my preference and thoughts on the subject. And to help remember to take the pill, i set a daily alarm on my phone.

I did the good Ole fashioned birth control pill. I set an alarm on my phone to take it every night and got in a habit of taking it. Then when we were ready for baby number 2 I got off of it, got a period and then got pregnant right away!  No weight gain .. til take a few months to find the right dose after having a baby and what not but I always recommend that

The depo causes excessive weight gain I have herd. I have used the nuva ring in the past, I find that method works best for me. I am not very good at taking the pills and I'm super sensitive to hormones.

I had Mirena after my first. I never had any problems with it. Lots of people won't have a period with it but I did still have a light short one every month. I had it for 3 years and was pregnant 2 months after having it removed. It lasts 5 years total.
