Clarification from earlier post....Also believed to allow for optimal blood flow to your placenta.......by lying on your left side.

I just turned 31 weeks and its only now I find it uncomfortable to be lying on my back .... I personally just find everything too heavy and end up feeling sick :( but like previous comments ive also heard it can impact on blood flow to the baby ... so ive converted to lying on my side ....

Nothing to do with umbilical cord or artery compression. It is venous compression. The weight of the uterus/baby can compress your inferior vena cava (IVC) and cause supine hypotensive syndrome. It is a drop in your blood pressure that can cause feelings of nausea, lightheadedness, rapid warmth, sweat,   Also believed to allow for optimal blood flow to your placenta.

I agree with JaydasMama. My boyfriend said youre not supposed to, bc the umbilical cord can wrap around the baby's neck like that, but idk on that one. Really tho, its best to sleep in your left side

It can decline blood flow to your baby through a main artery. I can definitely feel a difference when I lay on my back versus left side. My heart rate speeds up a little on my back because your heart has to work harder to pump blood.

Pushes on a main artery of yours. Ypu can lay on your back with a pillow slightly elevating you to one side or the other.

It's not that you can't. It's just that the baby is heavy and will push down on your back and may pinch a nerve and some other stuff.  You can Google it.
