planned ceasar...unable to choose date?

So I am 34 weeks and just finished up with my growth scan and obstetrician appointment. But he said that I can't choose my due date... that they'll send me a letter with a date picked for me. I'm a little disappointed that I won't get to choose.

is this normal? Do they always choose?

No you don't get to choose your due date. They will give you the time within the time frame you should have your baby.
just think about all different procedures they have to work into the schedule and fit you in..
Congratulations!
Soon you will have your baby!

Okay thanks guys! Just alot of people I know who have planned c sections picked a date...obviously the doctor gave them a list of available dates and they chose one of those.

Just a little disappointed because it was the only thing I was looking forward too about the whole pregnancy.

My first two were text book...no problems, never got sick. No issues. This one has been hell.

What does it matter if you pick the date or not? At least you know in advance when your baby is coming, a luxury a lot don't get.

I'm having my 2nd csection later this year and my dr picks depending on when his days at the hospital are, he typically does surgeries Tuesday and Thursday afternoons so unless I get very ill its likely to be one of those days.

Umm I don't mean to be rude....but I did say it was a planned c section....because of baby size....my first was 4.6 kg and after 68 hrs of labour still wouldn't fit through my pelvis. This one is planned as the baby is already 3kg at 34 weeks. Not doing another 60 hrs only to need another emergency c section.

Your baby will choose for you. It will come when it is ready and no earlier. Only if the baby goes past 40 weeks will they induce. A lot of women need to realize that choosing a due date is only convenient for the mother, not the child. The doc will send you an edd(estimated due date) and i think it's only 4% of women actually give birth on that date. It can be anywhere from two weeks before or after the estimation that your little one will arrive. Good luck.
