Ive had 3 the 3rd I wanted to see what the baby looked like towards the end but the ultra sound waves arent good for the baby because it makes a loud noise that bothers it and can cause lasting effects depending on the baby.

It depends on some past medical history with other pregnancies if you've had complications, depends if you are high risk & depends on your doctor. But you will always have one around 20 weeks to check for any abnormalities, measurements & gender if you are interested

Most people get two. One to verify viable pregnancy, and another to do organ/development check at 20 weeks. Some people get more depending on insurance/dr or especially with high risk pregnancy. I had 2 but i paid for 3 3d ultrasounds for fun.
