I failed my 1 hr test and just took the 3 hr test yesterday.  The fasting was terrible.  I went a total of 18 hours without food. Ugh! My doctor told me that for the 3 days before the test that after every meal i needed to eat a cookie, ice cream,  or candy bar. She said it helps the test be more accurate?  Idk but she's the dr so i went with what she said. Im supposed to get results today and im praying that I dont habe

I passed my first three pregnancies, this time I had 'abnormal' results (not sure exactly what that means, I asked if they were high and was told they were abnormal) I did the 3 hour and passed just fine.

I got a paper that said three days before the test to eat what I normally eat and add extra carbs from the list to each meal then the night before the test don't eat anything after 10p.m. until the test is over.

I have insurance I just hope it comes back ok. I'm already on meds for blood pressure I have to monitor 2 times a day and keeping track of it for the Dr. So having to do this is going to be a pain. But worth it if I have a healthy baby! Thanks! :)

No they didn't. They just told me that I can't have anything to eat or drink after midnight the night before until after the last time they take blood. What did they tell you to do?

3 hour test means no food or drink while fasting,  I failed but only half, they had me talk to Dietrician and show me how to use meter and strips,  best to have insurance,  they can be costly,  but they give you enough for week then you have to monitor your sugar intakes, it should only be temporary that's what I was told,  only while pregnant,  good thing in almost 35 weeks,  it can be very exhausting  :-) but worth it if you get healthy and have healthy baby,  just know your not alone and can and will get through it reguardless what the tests show.  -Hugs- best of luck mommy

I just got the same call. My 1 hour test was 176. I have to take the 3 hour test next week. Did they give you a diet to follow for three days ahead of time?

Yes, both  tests are as valid, check the American diabetes association for more info of tell your doc if he isn't sure.

You don't need to take the 3h test. There is the alternative of the 2h test which will only draw blood once instead of 4 times

If u fail that means u have gestational diabetes.  Depending on ur numbers and how high they will decide what's the  next step for you.. I got it with my first just had to pick my finger and I also got to talk to a nutritionist to help me make better choices.  But worry thing was fine my test always always came out good.
