This is my biggest fear too. We rescued a dog 2 and half months ago. He is very wild, energetic and playful. He has escaped from.ohr house 4 times already and we had to run so long to catch him because we totally love him. He is 3 years old. He growls when he sees choldren, strangers, other dogs. Oh and not to mention he has bit me twice when I didn't share my meat with him. He doesn't know to be gentle. He leaves scratch marks every time we come home and he jumps. This is worrying me as I am 30 weeks pregnant and I love my fur baby but he is so unpredictable.....any suggestions

I was worried when i was about to bring my son home. I have a strong 30 lb dog thats 2 year old, shes a bit too wild and playful at times. As soon as i got home from the hospital i gave my husband the baby while i greeted my dog so she could smell the baby on me. After a few minutes i held my son and slowly let my dog sniff him. I did that everyday until my dog got used to my son being around. Its been 3 months and my dog has gotten so good with him even though i still dont trust her 100% because hes still a fragile baby

We have a german shepherd and beagle. Both have been around my son since day one and they adore him. Now hes 1.5 yrs old and they all are best buds. He lays on them while watching tv and gives them hugs and kisses. They dont mind it one bit. We trained them since pups by pulling their ears and tails like a baby would.  Also would shake them while they slept to get used to it. They are now 3 ys old (beagle) and 2 (german shep). Start working with your dog now and we also did the bring home the babies hatcand blanket from the hospital to get his scent. We also tried to treat them and include them as much as we could to try not to cause jealousy toward the baby.

My dog is over protective of babies and kids. So I have no worries. But I did get to see how he would act around my nephew who was 10 months old and he did perfect. He would lay on the floor next to him and just watch.

I am a HUGE animal lover and adore my fur baby.  However, once I had a baby, my fur baby became a . . .   DOG.  It was weird because I never saw her that way until then.   I didn't want her licking the baby or getting into the babies things (keep your diapers WELL locked up . ..    dogs do VERY gross things).  Eventually the DOG becomes a fur baby again once babies turn into kiddos.

The old trick of bringing a blankie from the baby home and letting the dog smell it for a while before seeing the baby is a good one.

Good luck.  I'm sure it will all be fine. I have some precious photos of my sons giggling at our dog.  And now they are best buddies.  good luck

I've read on the internet and from asking my doctor that before you bring the baby home have someone bring something of the baby home and have the dogs smell it so they already know their scent.  So when you eventually come home the dog will not be going crazy trying to find out what's wrapped in the blanket.

I've been feeling the same way. We are working on training her as far as being allowed on the furniture in the bed and the babies room. (We have a big dog)
