worried and concerend please help...

ok.. so i am 23 weeks and 4 days.. i had my ultra sound and all looks well with the baby. everything normal and i am so happy due to the fact that i have diabeties. anyway. befor i was pregnant i was on meds for my anxiety disorder. and today at my appointment i had explained to the doctor that i am starting to suffer from them again..(panic attacks) so the doctor put me back on the same meds i was on befor.. the problem is i look it up and it says that it is a level D and that it is not recomended for pregnancy. so i am sort of worried about taking it..
It was my OB doctor that prescribed it to me and i dont think he would give me anything that i should not take but im just sort of a worry wart.. hence nedding the meds..
so what do you think? should i follow what the doctor is saying or just go with what it says in the warning labels?

To give you comfort my high risk OB said once the baby's brain is developed (after the first trimester) you can take psych meds.  You are 23 weeks, so the baby's brain has already developed.  I took a class C medication after my first trimester with my son and there were no birth defects.  Back then the doc said he might have a learning disability, but he actually has an unusually high IQ and began reading at age 3.
Good luck to you I know it's hard.  Can you take the meds as needed or is it a daily dose?  Do you have a psychiatrist you can ask about the medicine?

wow. I can't relate to the diabetes, but I can relate to the panic/anxiety. I suffer greatly from it, to the point that I cannot work and I do not leave my home. Unfortunately for me, my doctor refused point blank to give me anything for my disorder that was past a category B - which means that I am unmedicated since all meds that treat anxiety are at least a "C". I do know that most doctors won't prescribe potentially hurtful meds during pregnancy unless you were already on it and then got pregnant while taking it. I do agree with tobbeyj, that you should ask about this med if you are not sure about it.

the only token of comfort that I can give you is that at 23 weeks, your baby is mostly developed and the chances of a med causing birth defects is not as high as it was during your first trimester. I know exactly how hard it is to try and live with panic/anxiety. I have 2 other children plus all the wifey duties everyone else has. I really hope you can get a handle on your problem. goodluck and keep in mind ... your over your halfway mark! it won't last forever!

I would contact a pharmacist to see what they have to say...if they say its not good then I would contact my doc and tell him/her that I refuse to take this and hope they can prescribe something else. Good luck.
