Baby shower!

So has anyone else had their shower yet? Mine was yesterday and although I got a lot of stuff it doesn't seem like I really got anything I actually needed besides the crib set which my mom bought. All the clothes people bought me are like 18mths which I know will come in handy later but everything I bought has been bigger sizes so now I have hardly any newborn/0-3 mth clothes. I know I shouldn't be upset but I wish people would have bought more of the necessities, but I do have about 10 bottles of baby wash so at least she will be clean! Besides the gifts the shower went great, everything turned out great and it was a ton of fun! I wanna hear about everyone else's shower too!

p.s. I bet that everyone THINKS you're going to get tons of 0-3M clothes and that they're doing you a favor by buying bigger stuff!!!

One of my friends at work said that they got tons of little stuff but when they're daughter was 6-9 months (and beyond) they suddenly had NOTHING.

I had mine a couple of weeks ago... my sister worked REALLY hard on it and made it happen, so I have her to thank for the good turnout. And almost everyone there is either a recent mom or has bigger kids (the benefit of being an older mom myself I guess!) so they kind of "get" it I think. I got a lot of clothes (bc I think people can't resist) but I also got a fair amount of stuff off my registry, so I think it was a good balance.

That said, I was actually fairly surprised (and very touched) by the amount of support and turnout. For those of you whose showers didn't turn out great, I'm hoping that you still get support from your circles in other ways (who knows? maybe you guys will actually end up with babysitters instead of stuff! ;-)) and I agree with Jennifer330 -- the folks who did come do love you and your little one(s). And, in all probability even most of the folks who didn't make it probably love you and your little one too. They might surprise you by making it up to you. fingers crossed! xx

I had one this past Sunday :) that my bf's sister & mom put together! Small traditional one. Girls only.. Super fun & we got tons of clothes. No diapers or powder stuff. But we did get a baby bather, soap, lotion & learning toys :) I have a big one that my family is throwing in a week. My mom said 70 ppl already RSVP'd so I'm hoping we'll get more stuff baby really NEEDS like bottles, bottle warmer, pacifiers, diapers etc. & yes more like 0-3 month clothing. Everyone got baby 6-9mths & 18mth clothes!

I understand your disappointment sometimes people are just not thoughtful.... I have learned that the hard way. I am sure those that came mean that much more to you! ;)

I have mine this Sunday. I actually got a lot of the stuff on my registry last time around and didn't have to buy too much stuff, but did buy some stuff. After the shower I looked at all that I had figured out what I still needed, which was pretty easy because I could look at my registry and then made a trip to buy the essential stuff. Some people are really good at looking at what you need while others like to go out and buy whatever cute stuff they see. And once you have had kids you are good at knowing what size to get people that match the right season but when you havnt people get kind of clueless and just take a guess........try to see if you can return some of the stuff you don't need, or hold on to it and see if you can give it to someone else down the line that the season lines up-I did that and a girl friend of mine had a girl about 6 months after me so our daughters were on opposite seasons and it worked out well. Just go out looking up some sales!

I mean basically as far as gifts goes i wasnt too worried about that because baby has just about everything he needs i belueve the only thing i havent gotten yet are wash cloths and towels so i was too upset by that... I was pissed because at first i said i wasnt going to do a shower if i has to plan it all and spend all my money but one of my sisters convinced me to go ahead and do ine and she would pay for everything....then she backed out on me but i had everything just about planed sent out invited and everything so i decided to just go h
ahead and do it just to have a good time with family and friends.... So out of all the money i spent with renting the place to decorations to favors amd gifts for games... I spent about $250 whick to me is alot considering im not working at the moment i just got to school but i get $200 every 2weeks from my school... So u really could have used that money in something else not to mention my son turns 3 in 2 weeks would have rather used that for his birthday....so all in all new baby got couple outfits pacifier blanket soap and lotion (which i probably wont use because it off brand) my mom did buy stroller and carseat few weeks ago n that was her gift....not complaining just upset with my family n friends for not even having a thought to come. :-\

We had our first shower today (one more next weekend). It was such a great time! We had over 50 people so it took some time to get through the gifts. I think people like to buy all the cutesy clothes/items and not the necessities because practical stuff seems boring to them. I can't wait to wash and organize everything and get it all put away in it's place. We'll need to buy some things on our own. We did get many of the larger items on our registry but not the crib mattress, video monitor or breast pump.

I was so sad at the start of the day because my Mom is very sick with the flu and couldn't be there. I really missed having her by my side! It was such a blessed day with family and friends. It shows me how much this little guy is already loved!

Kai0912. That totally stinks. Id be upset too.

Im having two in a couple of weeks. One at work and another at a friends. The one at work is a diaper and gift card shower. I work at a school and each grade level was assigned different size diapers so I'll get a wide arrange.

Ha ha! I've had two friends recently tell me that while they appreciated their gifts, they got almost nothing on their registry at all or clothes that won't be in season by the time the baby hits that age. I got a lot of that at Christmas...like super warm clothes that the baby won't be able to wear until July and it gets super hot in Sacramento that time of year! LOL
