7 weeks and just diagnosed with Hypothyroidism, anyone else?

Today I went for my first OB appt and the Dr. performed some blood tests, collected urine and the first US. I'm 7w2d, and baby HR 154bpm. I was really happy with the normal results, but few hours later the nurse called me saying that the first blood results came and my TSH levels are abnormally high - 6.4 - and should be below 2.6 during pregnancy. I was never diagnosed with hypothyroidism before getting pregnant, so it was a bad surprise. She prescribed me Levothyroxine 25mcg and I'll start taking tomorrow, but I'm really scared. Anyone else have been through something similar?

I think your dose will go much higher as you progress through your pregnancy, when I was diagnosed 4 years ago I had to see an endocrinologist and it might not hurt for you to get a referral so they can talk you through this. I am on 200 a day and we still don't think that may be high enough.

Just get more of a specialists opinion

Pregnancy triggers a lot of changes with the thyroid and many women are in the same boat. It sounds like you're on top of things and seeing you're doctor. Continue to work closely with them to help avoid complications. When it comes to something like hypo, asking lots of questions and learning everything you can about managing it is a great way to go. Write down everything you have questions about ahead of time because appointments can go so quickly ... it can be really easy to forget!

Maybe next time you see them consider asking some questions like:

Do I need any further tests or screenings?
What are my treatment options?
What can I expect from this medication? How do I know it's working? What side effects are there and when should I call you if suspect something is wrong?
How will we monitor my pregnancy going forward?
Are there other specialists you suggest I see?
What lifestyle changes (diet, activity, etc) should I consider making?

Hope these are helpful, and hang in there. You can do this!!
