Omega 3

Hi, Ladies. I got some info from my doctor recently and wanted to pass it along.  As we know, Omega-3 is supposed to be really important for the baby.  But my doctor is not convinced that prenatal vitamins really help (who knows what's really in them, right?) and believes in going to the source for the nutrition I need.  During my last visit, she turned me on to flax seed, which you can get in the natural foods stores.  They're tiny seeds that have very little taste and can easily be put in almost any food.  I put 1/2 tsp in my cereal or yogurt once a day and now have all the Omega-3 I need without the expensive pills or having to worry about whether I'm eating enough fish.  It also costs alot less - last weekend I paid only $1.19 for 1/2 lb. that should last at least a month.  If you research it, they are the best source for non-fish Omega-3, even better than walnuts (and less fattening).

I'm taking an awesome strawberry flavored DHA supplement, or I'd seriously consider doing the flaxseed thing.

you know, I haven't been taking the Omega 3 since I got pregnant - they make me nauseous. I just take my prenatals daily. I try to eat healthy(doesn't always happen) but i do try. I didnt take any Omega 3 with my other kids and their fine, so oh well. :)

Please don't misunderstand me. I am not advocating for not taking any multivitamins; I'm just saying that for specific vitamins and minerals, there are food alternatives that are better - if you incorporate them into your daily diet.  I actually take Centrum and a folic acid supplement daily since they give me most of the vitamins that I need and don't cost much, but was spending alot of money on prenatal Omega-3 pills.  The flax seed is an alternative to Omega-3 only.
