clinics?

Does anyone have to go to a clinic for prenatal care because they are on medicaid? If yes do you like your clinic? Also i'm going to a clinic in Valhala NY for the first time next friday to get my amniocentesis and i'm scared about who will perform  the procedure and if they care less when your on medicaid? I have always had good insurance but due to the crappy economy my husband was laid off. Any help will be appreciated.

I'm on medicaid and they have treated me just fine; the quality of care has been better than I expected (then again, the last time I has insurance I was still seeing a pediatrician, and they're not great about listening to the actual patients).  I'm not going to a "clinic" per se (well, the maternal and infant care clinic at the UW medical center, but I'm not sure that counts), but like I said, everything's been fine.

Hi, Gina.  I don't know if you've gone already. I'm in NY also and work in White Plains.  You didn't name the clinic but I think the reputation of the doctor performing the test is the most important.  What's the reason that you have to go for an amnio? Did your blood tests come back high risk? Also if you tell me the name of the clinic, I can ask around to see how good it is. One of my coworkers has lived in Valhalla all her life and knows everyone/everything.

I am on Minnesota care and I beleive it is basicly the same thing your on. I have to say the clinic/hopsital that I use is State funded and does not turn anyone away based on abilitly to pay. Its also one of the best hospitals in MN. I do beleive that you should still have some choice in clinic to go to. Call the number on your card or your worker or look in your hand book. If you are not happy with your care or worried about the clinics rep, I would do what Dani suggested and look up the doctor online. I wish you the best and I hope everything turns out ok:)

I am not on medicaid since we don't qualify but are self pay and I understand your concerns with quality care.  I was just reading about the amnios in my baby books and online and they say to find out the rate of m/c that the particular dr. has preformed.  I think you can look it up and it will tell you the kind of questions to ask.  Even if you are on medicaid there should be a choice of places you can go to, so if you can, check them out and see what the best place is.  I am hoping and praying that we will not have to get one, but we don't know yet.  I can't imagine how scared you are, but I will be thinking of you.  Best of luck :)
