Our Babies

I was wondering what all the babies are up to know. I have a friend whose baby is 3w younger then mine and she already walks all over the place in her walker and sits up on her own. My baby is 7m and only goes back in his walker and sits up only like 5 seconds then falls to the sides. Are we in the normal stages or behind?

I agree that all babies move at their own pace and might do things at different ages. My son was crawling by 7 months whereas my almost 8 month old girl doesn't seem like she will ever crawl. She rolls all over the place. I don't think she sees any need to crawl when she can roll to anything she wants. She's also talking already and my son didn't talk until he was 11 months.

I'm not worried about what she does or doesn't do at this point. I think they all catch up.

as for my little one... she has been sitting since 3 1/2 months and crawls backwards. She can also go in circles, just not forward yet. She skipped the rolling around phase though. Just goes to show that they all do things at a different pace and prefer different things. She *can* roll- but i can probably count on my hands the number of times she has. She stands pretty steadily can can stand for a long time holding on to only 1 of my fingers.

She has little interest in most foods, but loves those gerber puffs and will self-feed those. She also loves avocado. It's hard to get her to eat purees or cereal. She is a TERRIBLE sleeper. Still eating several times during the night and waking frequently for her binky. I'm lucky if I get an hour or 2 undisturbed. Her reflux is being managed with meds but i think that contributes to her restlessness at night. I am working on getting her to sleep flat (she's been in a bouncy seat since birth because of the severe reflux).

They say walkers may interfere with some physical development, Babies who use walkers may have an awkward gait at first, but it does typically resolve once the baby begins to walk. But focus has primarily been on safety concerns. The American Academy of Pediatrics wanted them to be banned because of all of the accidents that occur with walkers, but it was unable to. I think they are banned in Canada though. In addition to falls and pinched fingers, burns and other accidents caused these concerns because parents felt their babies were safe in walkers and didn't watch them as carefully as they might otherwise. Newer walkers have been made wider so that they cannot go through doorways easily. Stationary thinsg like exersaucers are recommended instead. Obviously, if you choose to use a walker, you can minimize these risks by doing a little research to learn about risks you may not have been aware of and of course using common sense. If you are using an older model, be sure to make sure it hasn't been recalled and consider getting a newer one.

yeah, I never heard walkers were bad before. ALL my kids used one and they all progressed just fine. They've been around for years. I would think that if they're "bad", they would discontinue them. I feel they've even helped my kids gain balance and coordination earlier than expected to be quite honest...

Why were u told not to use a walker and from whom?  Because Rodrigo just loves his I have a bouncing jeep upstairs and the red convertible downstairs and he just loves both of them, of course I had to rearrange all of my furniture.

ps... crawling/walking/sitting... those things can actually make things a little tougher too bc now I have to watch him like a hawk to make sure he's not gona bang his head up, or chip out one of his two little teeth... it can be stressful ;)  fun, but stressful.... so just enjoy your babies... before you know it, they'll be DRIVING! lol

let me add that I have 3 kids and they each did things at different ages... for example my oldest was fully potty trained at 2yrs on the dot, while my middle child didnt become potty trained til 3... so it goes to show every baby does things in his/her own time... dont beat yourself up or "go crazy" because someone has a timeline of when they "should be" doing things... there is no SET time that they should be doing something. I'd say something is wrong if they're 2 and still not walking but other than that, dont stress it... every baby is unique! Just enjoy them while you can, they grow up quick!  :)

Why do we put so much pressure on ourselves? I usually try to avoid the comparsion discussion but I could not help it today.

Pat4rod and Tabby- your pedi's must be a lot more lacked then mine. When Cruz was not sitting for more then a minute at his 6 month, she made me schedule a follow-up for a month later and told me if was not sitting by then she was sending him to OT! I was like, what! Well the next week he mastered it but it was so stressful!

My pedi also stresses me out with eating! I do not care if he is in the 10%! He was eating 2 Stage 2 jars and 30 oz of milk and now she bumped him up to 3 jars and 24-30oz. I even quit pumping because of this and now I feel really guilty! I could care less if he is not a plumpy baby! He is happy and healthy and that is all that matters!

We were told not to use walkers so I would not stress out about that either! Cruz can wiggle around on his belly and turn himself in circles but no full on crawling yet!

I am just so done with the comparisons......it is making me nuts!

My Taylor is 7 months and can sit for about 5 sec before falling over. She doesnt crawl yet but pulls herself and rolls all over. Total oppisit than my 18 month old that started walking along furniture by now. He was walking by 9 months and running by 10. Every baby is diffrent. Taylor does have hypermobility syndrom that does slow her down alittle bvecuase its harder for her to control her movements and her joints are so loose but she is still well within the guidlines on whats normal for her age.
Your little guy sounds like he is doing great:)

Mine is 7 months and is full-on crawling, pulling up on his playpen, crib, and furniture to stand up on both feet, RUNNING in his walker, and sitting independently from a crawl... My older kids walked at 10 months but I think this little guy is gona have em both beat! I wouldn't say this is normal though. I think most kids start crawling around 8/9months and walking around their first Bday... Sounds like yours are all right on track though... Like pp said, all babies are different! :)

You have to remember that all babies are different.  My son just turned 8 months.  He is crawling.  Pulling himself up on things and can sit independently.  He can go from crawling to sitting on his own.  He can also say bye bye and wave.  He says baba and dada all day long.  I thinking walking in a walker is still something that babies even at my sons age are not really doing.  That baby just must be advanced.  Joel will take a few steps if we hold on to his hands but that is about it.  He loves to stand though.
