waters broke with a huge gush

I am 39 weeks and whilst driving home from work last night my waters broke, wasn't just a little bit but a full on flood. Ruined my pale grey car seat, lol. That was about 8 hours ago and although I had a few contractions it's all quiet now. Any suggestions ladies? Will walking help get them going? Have to go in to be induced tonight if nothing happens :-(

I'm in the UK and if your waters break here they give you 24hrs to go into labour naturally. Saw my midwife and she confirmed that my waters had gone and then sent me home. Few contractions but nothing regular yet.

I was told after my water was broken(doctor broke my water after the start of pitocin)  that I could not get up and move in fact they then gave me a cath. Before my induction I was told of my water breaks go straight to the hospital. Id feel much better at a hospital then at home after that happens.

I agree with comment above, when I was in labor with my son I bounced on a yoga ball for about half an hour and then went for a walk. I didn't even know I was dilating all the way while at home. I got to the hospital, my water broke while sitting in a chair at labor and delivery and 10 minutes later my son was born. So try bouncing on a ball if you have one and and go for a walk. Gravity will help bring baby down. Good luck and God bless!

I believe that you have 24 hours before there is an issue after your water brakes and nothing happens. With last child, my water broke, had contractions for 12 hours, 2 hours of hard labor and he was born.

I totally credit bouncing on a yoga ball with kickstarting my labor this past weekend. I was in early labor for three weeks, picked up a yoga ball and bounced around for a couple hours while watching a movie before going out with my parents and then BAM active labor started.

I Was Told By My doc that I need to be at the hospital within an hour if my water brakes. Your doc knows your water broke?

I'm curious because in thought if your water breaks you need to go in soon.
