Hey girls.. I am still here- no baby for the new year.. maybe this week instead!!  Contractions were good and strong about 20mins apart yesterday- but they stopped when my legs couldnt handle anymore standing/walking.

Happynifer--they told you to have a drink or two? As in an alcoholic drink? My nurse and a few MD friends suggested the same thing, but I felt too guilty to try it. I know it won't have any impact on fetal development, but I was imagining my baby getting sloshed through the umbilical cord. But if a drink would relax things, including my uterus, I'll give it a shot.

My new goal: baby birthday 1/1/11. (not likely. Still nothing brewing for me. Tomorrow is 41 weeks and this baby is going nowhere.)

woke up this morning at 4am with contractions 5 minutes apart.  went in at 5pm with them 2min apart and lasting 90-120sec each.
and magically still 1-2cm dilated, 90% effaced and back home with an order for a drink or 2, a warm bath and a prescription for a sedative if that doesn't let me sleep...
but BP still holding ok.
2011 baby here we go...

Go, Happynifer! Nice job on the BP. And wow, Lillian is certainly a healthy baby. Super great news!

Sounds like your hospital is less than ideal. Too bad; I don't blame you for wanting the birthing center. We love our hospital. Our pediatrician will make a visit when the baby is born--their phone number is already on file with our OB and the L&D staff. Also, providing their is no need for NICU care, the baby would sleep in my room, along with DH. We want to stay overnight to take advantage of their lactation consultants, etc.

Now all we need is labor! NST today showed Baby is fine...perhaps a little too happy, because he/she is not budging. My body is showing zero signs of preparing for labor. So now my doc is talking about inducing on the 6th. Actually, he mentioned the 12th but I was not happy about waiting that long. I am down to one pair of maternity pants, shirt and shoes that fit; the thought of two more weeks like this is torture. Plus I am using time off from work to sit around that I would prefer to use for bonding with Baby. Anyway, my doc will make a final decision next week. Guess I should've been in the January 2011 baby group!

Keep the faith, girls. We will get there!

Well glad to hear you're getting some where Happynifer.

Tomorrow is my 40 week appointment... I've had contractions here and there without inducing them by walking- so that is good. But I almost feel like my body is on a deadline to get her delivered in this next week or I'm going to be forced to a c-section.

I am not sure what my midwife will tell me, but the pelvic bone is hurting MUCH more today than previously. Been taking hot showers, but everything else sounds less than pleasurable to try for inducing labor =(

I am still praying and hoping for the best!!

woohoo, BP down to 134/90 and lost 2 lbs of fluid since yesterday.
and her US was good (good cord pressures, placenta and fluid levels both good and good activity)
95+ percentile and estimated 9 lbs 13 oz.
so still on bedrest, but no induction today :)
adding homeopathy to the acupuncture to see if that will help coax her out.
still spotting so maybe some dilation taking place :)

no point in checking you if you are not having contractions since it really does mean nothing, makes you more prone to infection and is not pleasant.
manual stretching is just what it sounds like and definitely was not fun.  but if i get to avoid pitocin because of it, i'll take it :)
i was only 1-2cm dilated this morning...
the midwives have privledges at the hospital so they will remain in charge of my care unless i need a c section.
what i do lose control of is when Lillian can be discharged.  At the birth center they generally send you home 4-6 hours after delivery if you are both doing well.  At the hospital, the midwife can clear me to go hom in that timeframe, but it will depend on what pediatrician is on and what time she comes as to when we'd be able to go home.
i'll also have to fight really hard to make sure she is not taken away from me, etc at the hospital when that is standard of care at the birth center.

I'm w/ nj_mom hope all goes well and either way everything comes out okay. What is the manual streching- eeks! I still hadnt dilated at 39weeks, so wonder if they will check again on Thursday. I secretly hope so, even though the midwife said it doesnt gage how close labor is going to be.

Good luck girls- for those of us left =)

Wow, yes, best to keep your mind on what is most important: your health and Lillian's well-being. Although I know you had your heart set on the water birth / birthing center. I am sorry! Perhaps it will still work out. I'll keep my fingers crossed for ya. How dilated are you? Do you at least have an OB or MW who you trust for a hospital delivery?

I am still status quo at 3 days post due date. I have periodic cramps and back pain, but nothing consistent. We have our weekly NST tomorrow. I am debating discussing induction with my OB. Previously, we've both been opposed. But this recent blizzard was super nerve-wracking for us. The hospital we are using is 30 minutes away, and if we had to call an ambulance, they might insist on taking us to a closer but less desireable hospital where my OB does not have privileges. Not to mention, we read about 2 women in our area who did not even make it to the hospital; they were delivered by EMTs in their cars. I'm sure I'll still stick to the plan and not induce, but I am getting super impatient and figured it's worth discussing pros and cons with my doc. I just think this baby has no intention of budging anyway...so whether we induce at 43 weeks or now at almost 41...ah, who knows.

Best of luck, Happynifer, and keep us posted!! By the way, what was involved in manually dilating your cervix? Sounds painful :(

well my whole plan may be going out the window...
my blood pressure has been creeping up, b ut today hit 155/98....i also gained 5 lbs in 6 days, so i am now on bedrest and we are watching for other signs of pre-eclampsia.
on the good side, she passed her NST with flying colors and I am 90% effaced. he rhead is nice and engaged and she seems to be in a good position for delivery now.
the midwife was able to get my BP back under 140 (the cutoff for being able to go home and not transfered to the hospital, 138/94) by having me lie down for a while and retaking it.
he also stripped my membranes and manually stretched my cervix in hopes of getting labor started today/tonight. also went to the acupuncturist and chiropractor this afternoon so they could do what they could to get things going tonight.
back in the morning to see if i have made any progress on either my pressure or my dilation.  talk of pitocin tomorrow if not...which completely kills my plan of a birth center waterbirth since i have to be in the hospital for the pitocin :(
but as long as i get a healthy baby and healthy me out of this, i'm happy in the end.

I am still here... 2 days till d-day, no contractions that have stuck around. Midwife said I have to reconsider my VBAC at 41 weeks if we're not showing signs of progression. I sure hope this next week she will come on her own and I can have her naturally.

I feel so bad for you happynifer... Hope your baby comes soon!!!

Well i am now 2 days overdue and still not a sign of a baby anytime soon, having a stretch and sweep on thursday lets see if that gets things going,
On the 23rd i was getting contractions 3 minutes apart for an hour an half went out for a walk hoping it would help and guess what it stopped!!...typical init! lol

i actually would be fine with being overdue if i hadn't been having contractions and 2 rounds of early labor over the past 2 weeks.  i just don't think it's fair to have spent 2 nights with contractions 2-3 minutes apart with no sleep and still be pregnant....
i get you on the frustrated and bitter :)
mine won't talk induction until at least 42 weeks either, which is a big part of a reason i chose to birth where i did ironically.

Why is it everyone else went early, but we are overdue and have no indication things will happen soon? Also, I am happy my OB will not induce until 43 weeks, but it seems everyone else gets induced at 40 weeks 1 day. So now I am questioning my own beliefs and plan to let nature take its course.

Yep, I'm feeling frustrated and a little bitter today!

Due date yesterday, so I am officially overdue too. We are in the midst of a blizzard and our township just declared a state of emergency until tomorrow afternoon (no vehicles allowed on the roads), so I'm thinking tonight / tomorrow morning would make for a great entrance. Hint, hint, Baby!
