6w1d No Fetal Pole Possible Blighted Ovum? :(

My periods have always been irregular so when I got a positive pregnancy test (and then 4 more positives lol) I didn't have an exact number for how far along I was. I felt it was less than 8 weeks. I went into the doc today where a vag. u/s was done and she just saw a small sac so she referred me to radiology. They did a normal u/s and then also a vag. u/s - was told the gestational sac measured 6w 1d (never heard anything about a yolk tho...) and no fetal pole was seen. They never said anything about it being empty, but we also didn't see a heartbeat. I have never had an u/s done this early (I have 2 other children), my earliest was at 7w 4d and everything was visible.

I just got a call back from my doc on my labwork and was told that my hormone levels are at 26000 and with levels that high a fetal pole and heartbeat should be seen. She thought it may be headed towards miscarriage and could be a blighted ovum. I have to go in for more labwork on Friday and another u/s next Wednesday. I know it's really early, but its so hard hearing that things aren't really looking the best. Of course she hasn't said anything for sure and isn't giving any recommendations right now, but I'm just so worried and all I want to do is cry. We were all so excited about this pregnancy and I just don't want it to be over. I'm really hoping that my levels continue to rise and that my u/s next Wednesday (which will hopefully show 7w 1d) shows better news. I hate this waiting game - I just can't spend the whole week acting like everything is ok

I wish some drs./nurses would just tell you to wait BEFORE making assumptions. At 6 weeks my levels were around 22000 with my son.  They told me I should too see a heartbeat/fetal pole with a number like that.  I saw a yolk sac only.  (Two days before I was at the ER and they saw NO yolk sac.)  Then at 7 weeks they saw a fetal pole and a few days later a heartbeat.  He is now 4 years old!!!!  The entire time I was bleeding (turned out to be an infection), I was cramping (I had an ovarian cyst), and I was told I am going to loose this baby by SEVERAL professionals.  So long story short - what you were told could be wrong.  I know it's hard to relax (I didn't move from the couch for a week when they told me I would have to wait a week for another ultrasound.  And to expect a MC in the next several days.)  It was hard, but I hope my story helps!

Blighted Ovum... I've been reading a lot on this actually.  Some women (many of those with a tilted uterus) sometimes measure behind or are falsely diagnosed with having a blighted ovum.  6 weeks is still really early and I've heard of a bad diagnosis being made as late as 10 weeks!  Its good that your hormone levels are high but past the first few weeks they can plateau or even drop some in a completely healthy pregnancy.  I would wait another month before you decide to do anything.  If they still can't see the baby at 9 or 10 weeks then its a little more accurate.

I sure hope everything turns out well for you.  My miscarriage two years ago was a blighted ovum; I was supposed to be between 7/8 weeks and there was just a sac on the ultrasound...my numbers were high too which was initially why I couldn't get my OB to do an ultrasound even though I just felt something wasn't right (and had started to spot lightly).  I truly hope that you are just not as far along as they might think.  good luck.
