If we have a boy my husband wants to name him after him

So my husband has asked to name a boy after him if we find out we are having a boy, so his name would be Jason William. I want to honor my husbands wish but I just can't picture having a baby named Jason, It is such a common name. What do you ladies think? I'm sure I'm being selfish by not wanting to name a boy after my husband. I have a 6 yr old son name Skyler Nathaniel, so he is not named after his biological father but I was never married to his dad.

So if it is a boy should he carry my husbands name out of respect for my husband?

I told him he could name him after him if it is a boy but if it is a girl I get to pick the name. :) I felt if it was this important to him, I would honor him and allow him to name his first born son after him.

I actually find out the gender tomorrow if everything goes as planned. If it's a boy, we're naming him Ethan Jace, and we're calling him Jace. I like Jason as a name, but I was reading a novel where the main character was Jason (insert last name) IIII, Hi grandpa went by JR, his dad went by Tre, and he went by Jace. I loved the name Jace and decided to go with it instead of Jason. So, maybe you can go with Jason William JR and call him Jace or something. Maybe even his middle name. I personally wouldn't give my child my full name. If it's a girl I think we finally agreed on Allyssa Nicole. Baby and I would share a middle name, but she would go by her first name. Honestly, we couldn't agree on a middle name, and we both liked mine. lol.

how set is he on it?
it's not a bad name and you can call him JW, JJ (Jason Junior) or William....

we had a girl name picked out since i was 5 weeks pregnant...it was boy names we couldn't figure out.  thankfully we are expecting a girl :)

I like the therory of having Jr, Sr, III etc to pass on the family name/heritage.. but on the same hand- how many people grow up hating their names or a part of it and there is nothing the baby can do to change a parent from naming them that.

I love my first name.. hate my middle- so I will not be passing that along.

Good luck either way!! Jason is a good name, but I like the idea of it as the middle name- but hubby may not agree.

Us either!!!  Girl names are tougher...but maybe that's because I was hoping for twin boys...I keep hoping something will jump out at me like the boys names did....otherwise, she might have to be Twin B for a while!!!!  HAHA

Oooh good luck!  If it's a girl you could still name her Jason....I know a few girl Jason's...cute.  Congrats to you!  We found out a few weeks ago now that we are expecting one of each (twins).  I went a little crazy this weekend buying them outfits...oops  ;)

Or do you already have a girl name?

I am sure you guys will find the happy medium -- my dad is technically a Jr, but he goes by II (the second)...he didn't like Jr....

Thanks for your comment, I will talk to him about maybe a different middle name but he seems set on being able to give him the Jr. status which would be a completely matching name. But we are jumping the gun, we should find out on 07/29/10 what we are having as long as the baby wants to show what it is.

Lori,

That's such a personal decision -- but if he is Jason and dad is Jason they will probably call your son something else anyway -- would your hubby be ok with Jason as his middle name instead of William?

Or, if you give him Jason as a first name, and a middle name you like (example, Jason Tyler xxxx) ..then people could call him Tyler even though his real name is Jason.  Just a thought....good luck with your naming!!  We are at a complete loss for girl names!  ;)
