False negative test

Hi ladies, this is my first pregnancy and I think I am 10 weeks pregant. I went to see my GP on the 26th of June and she asked me to leave a urine sample i.e the first urine of the day and call back in a week for results. I forgot to take the sample on the next day which was Friday 27th so I submitted the sample on Monday 30th.

I called on the 7th of July and the receptionist seemed confused and constantly put me on hold when I asked her about the results. She finaly told me to wait until the following thursday afternoon i.e. the 10th as she did not have the results yet. I could not believe that they needed all that time to do a pregnancy test. I thought maybe she forgot to submit my sample and only remembered when I called.

I went on holiday on Friday the 11th and decided to give them a couple more days to get the results in. I came back on Tuesday the 15th and called on Thurday the 16th. To my surprise, the test was negative!!!!! I immediately bought different kits to test for myself again and they were all positive. I booked an appointment with my GP for next Thursday and I am going to ask for an early scan. Has anyone else had this before i.e. false negative test or false positive test? Could it had been that the receptionist used stale urine? Could I have a chemical pregnancy or I had a miscarriage? I am so confused as I have all the signs and symptoms and have missed my periods for two months now.

Please ladies, thursday seems so far away and your experience could be very helpful for me and DH at this moment.

Thanks

Hi,
Go to a different Dr if you can.  :)

Sorry, but that is what I would do.  Or see if they can do a test that will have results today or tomorrow.  Or do a blood test, even though those are a little more.
Best of luck in finding  out what's next.

Eventhough you know your last period doesnt mean you know when you ovulated (unless you used okp's). So your period isn't always reliable means of dating a pregnancy. However it does sound like you are pregnant to me.

Thanks ladies.

I used First response among others on 6 June they were positive back then so I celebrated. Then Clear Blue digital on the 13th after I had missed my period and it was positive. I started my last period on 12 May so by the 30th of June when I gave my sample to the receptionist I was in week 7. I used these two again last thursday after getting the doctors unexpected results and they were both positive. I just dont understand why the doctors test came back negative.

Its just that I cant prove it but I am quite positive its the stale urine sample issue as Atlantisea mentioned.

I would go get a Clear Blue Easy or a First Response from the store ...doctors say there the most effective. I used both and they both came up positive 4-5ddays after my 1st missed period. Use them in the morning with your first fresh pee...that's when the hcg mormone is the strongest. Also pee in a cup so you can use that same fresh pee if your using more than one test..thats what I did...good luck!

Doctors tests are less sensitive than home tests (usually). You are probably not quite as far along as you think you are, and the doctors test hasn't picked it up yet.

Besides that, I am pretty sure results from 4 day old urine will be invalid.
