Mikayla Renee is here!

Mikayla Renee arrived on 2/10/09 @ 3:28pm weighing 8lbs 9oz and 21 inches long!

I was induced on 2/10/09 @ 5am (well Pit started @ 6am).  At 8 am the doctor broke my water, which started painful contractions immediatly!  I didn't expect them to feel like that so soon.  Within a half hour I went from 1cm to 3cm dilated.  I ended up getting an epidural about 45 minutes after hitting 3cm and was 5cm by then.  The tech did say that some women who get epidurals do feel pain when the baby comes out because it doesn't always work "down there".  But I immeditaly stopped feeling the contractions just pressure.  An hour later I was 7cm and then by 1:30pm I was 10cm.  They were really surprised how quick I progressed.  As I said before the doc was worried about high the baby was and told me he was 99% sure I would need to have a c-section.  The nurses kept saying the baby had dropped but when the doc came in when I was 10 cm he said she was still high and I would just have to push to drop her - and he went back to his office across the street :(  As I started pushing I realized I was one of those women who the epidural DOESN'T work when pushing.  So I felt every single thing!  And after 2 hours of pushing with every contraction, she dropped and within 3 minutes of the doctor coming in she was born!  He did have to cut me.  But all the staff couldn't believe the strength I had to push her out and to push for so long, because she was so high and big for my body size.  We had to stay at the hospital for 48 hours because I tested positive for Strep B.  She has a little jaundice but the doctor said he isn't concerned too much about it and to keep her by sunlight, so we've been keeping her around the windows and even took her for a car ride to get my pain meds.  I'm breastfeeding and she latched on right away, I just struggle with trying to feed her every 3 hours because she doesn't want to eat every 3 hours.  But when she does she eats a lot - they called her a little parana (sp?) at the hospital.  Well I'm trying to rest as much as I can because my bottom is quite sore.  we are able to get about 5-6 hours a of sleep a night but it usually doesnt start until 5am because she is fussy between 1-3am.  Ok well now that I've told you all everything I am going to try and nap before family comes to visit.

Super congratulations on your baby.

Hard work getting them out for sure!

The first week is the hardest recovering from episiotomy.  I am now 3 weeks post delivery and it's a little tender down there still, but improving daily.

My docs just told me to feed on demand rather than every 3 hours.  My baby tends to want to suck and suck in the afternoons, but in the mornings she ***** and then sleeps for 3 1/2 hours and at night she's already sleeping for 4 - 5 hours at a time.

Last night I had to wake her up and ask her to feed because my breasts were so sore.... she only had a little suck with a lot of encouragement (just enough to reduce the pressure / pain then she was back to sleep for another 3 hours...

My sister gave me a great book called pediatrician in my pocket.  It says that as long as baby is drinking every 4 - 5 hours there's no problem and baby will set her own schedule based on what she needs (as long as she's well and gaining weight).  I found that very reassuring and so far it seems to be right.  Just don't expect it to be the same schedule every day..... :)

Congrats again.

Fantastic news!  That's a big baby for a woman your size.  Absolutely amazing what our bodies can do.  Warm baths will help that bottom soreness.  They used to call them "sitz baths" when I was having babies.

Congratulations.
