Mckenna is all about dinner time loves the oatmeal cereal with anything lol HSe ends up wearing most of it but she gets so happy when she sits in her chair for dinner or breakfast for that matter
AWw....thats awesome. Sarah is the same way. She tends to make a mess...but has so much fun doing it!
Myra started taking food finally, about a couple weeks now. Shes so funny to watch. She'll make all these funny faces, the gagging sounds...lol But she does eat it all.
I have her on Rice cereal, veggies and fruit. I've tried the Apple and Banana juice and she loves that.
I bought a sippy cup for her thinking that when she's about 6 months old, she'll be able to take it and get more juices. I HATE going on the road and having to think my baby is hungry/thirsty.
Mikayla is hilarious when eating!! She adjusted to the spoon very quickly. Now I do like a little airplane with the spoon going into her mouth and she opens just as it gets to her mouth. I rarely get any spit back out, so yay less clean up!!
Her favorites so far are carrots and pears. It's hilarious to see her kick her legs and move her arms in her highchair in between bites because she wants more.
Aw, Mikayla sounds so sweet. I can't wait to start feeding my little Daniel foods. I bought one of those mesh food feeders, and will start him on it when he's 5 mos ( august 4th).
What Jar foods did you start your babies on first? How much and how often did you feed it to them?
Caiden has been on Rice Cereal for over a month now. He started eating just 1 Tbsp at dinner time but now eats about 3Tbsp and a 5oz bottle with it. Were starting him on jar food in about a week and I've bought applesauce, bannanas and squash. But was just wondering what you ladies gave your babies first...how much and how often? And if you mixed it with the rice cereal or not?
Katebud, I also have one of those mesh food feeders. I was told to put frozen fruits and veggies in it for Caiden to suck on and eat. What do you plan on putting in yours?
Rockmelon and watermelon are good in the mesh feeder things..
I actually started Mikayla on the Gerber 1st Foods, which are in little containers. They also contain less than in the jars, so you aren't wasting anything. I gave her all the varieties they offer, except for the prunes (obvious reasons). I give her an oz of formula mixed with 3 tbsps of oatmeal (we transitioned her from the rice cereal a few weeks ago and also have the consitency thicker, as actual oatmeal would be), then she has one of the containers of food (it's 2.5oz), and sometimes, not always, finishes her bottle. At first, he may only eat some of the food, so just put half in a seperate dish and then you can refrigerate the rest (if he doesn't eat it all) and use within 2-3 days. It actually works out good, because since you are testing the food anyways for 3 days you'll end up using it. Now, Mikayla eats what I explained above for breakfast and dinner, then today we started feeding her a container of the Gerber 2nd Foods (3.5oz) for lunch (no cereal).
Also, at first I would give Mikayla all her baby food then cereal and she wouldn't eat the cereal. Well it was because she got used to the sweetness of the baby food. So, the trick is, you can either mix them together OR alternate bites - both of those worked for Mikayla.
I was really nervous at first, thinking "was I giving her too much? or too little?". I called my doctor and they told me I am doign everything fine, but not to give her more than 2 jars of food a day. Now the jars are 4oz so I was giving a total of 5oz a day so I felt better. It's all pretty much up to your baby how much he eats, but he'll probably adjust to the foods rather quick. Mikayla sounds like she is saying "yum" as she eats, it's hilarious. It's also probably why she such a chunker! We weighed her on the hospital scale (that they weigh them on when first born) and she weighs 20lbs 8oz!!!
Nathan will be 6 months on Friday, and has absolutly no interest in eating solid foods...I have tried a few times, and he will not eat....just breastfeeding and gaining lots of healthy weight!! As a matter of fact, the times I am away from him or that he is bottle fed, he is only still eating 4-5 oz...the week I am away from him him he only eats about 24 oz a day!!!
He weighs about 20 lbs and has lots of rolls..as long as he is content, then I am content, I am not going to force the issue!!!
I haven't bought any jar food, and don't plan on it...he can eat soft mushy table food when he is ready to eat.
Thanks KM! Caiden is a little chunker too, we weighed him lastnight and he was 20 pounds 2 ounces and he's not even 6 months yet! LOL. He doesn't even eat that much either which is bizarre. 4 bottles a day and 2tbsp rice cereal at dinner. He has so many rolls on his legs, I love it!
I appreciate the information and suggestions! I have already bought some jar fruits and veggies (gerber 2 packs). So I guess I will start him out with 1 of those a day? Half in the morning and half with dinner? I'll check with his doctor. And I'm wondering when I start that if I should switch to oatmeal and get rid of the rice cereal? He loves the rice cereal so I imagine he will LOVE the flavored baby food! I'm excited to start him on it! He has his 6 month checkup in 8 days...gonna talk to the doc and hopefully start the next day! Thanks again!
Wow. Lucy is one of the oldest bubs (21st Jan) and she weighs 14 pounds 4 ounces!
And she has put on quite a bit in the last 3 weeks of eating solids..
