Unfortunately I can only speak from my experience. I was induced with my son, had an epidural which didn't work and ended up tearing but only enough to require one stitch. It was funny because after it was all over I was begging my OB to numb me up before he did the stitch and he was like why, its only going to hurt more and take longer so i went without. I have no idea how much of my epidural worked as it must have worked alittle bit, I got it around 4cm dilated and then didn't feel too much of anything until I knew it was time to push - went that time came I felt everything - even the sensation of the baby turning to face my back to come out talk about weird and yes painful but I tell you what. In my opinion immediately following his birth the pain from getting the epidural was worse for me. I kept asking when it would be over and the nurse kept saying I don't know and I think that had a lot to do with it. With the pain of labor there is an absolute end to it all and that is what you need to focus on. This time I would love to do as suggested above and stay home until my water breaks and I need to get to the hospital but I am not counting on it with the twins. I also want to try and not get an epidural because then you have way more freedom to move through the contractions. I remember when it came down to the last five pushes or so with my son I just started tearing all the monitors, oxygen masksoff of me and tossing them aside inbetween each contractions - I had enough and they had them all criss crossed over me ridiculous like. I kicked the doctors hand away from me I swear it felt like she had a few fingers in my butt (not sure what that was supposed to accomplish) pushed myself way up the table let out a scream and pushed him out, no break after counting to ten or anything I was done and I wanted him out!!!
I know it sounds painful and frightening but look here I am doing it again - its easily forgotten once you hold that new baby in your arms!!!!!!!!!! And when its over it will feel like no time has passed at all. Devise your birthplan to your wishes but allow yourself to be flexible. My sister had epidurals both times and swears by it and says she wasn't even sure when to push so this time around could be totally different for me if I decide to do an epidural again!!! Be open and honest with yourself and remember no one gets a medal for having a nartural birth although I think they deserve it in every right!!!!!!

Hi,

Yeah, I'm scared, but that is the inevitable end of having a baby process.  I am much more scared of having a cesarian than I am of having a natural birth.  Yes, natural birth is painful, but it is over quickly and recovery generally takes only days.  Recovering from major abdominal surgery takes months.

Agree with the massage.  I have vitamin e oil and have started massaging down there already.  From research it's actually usually better not to have an epistotomy, natural tears (and they don't always happen anyway) seem to heal better....  I reckon that's the last thing we'll be worrying about at that stage of labor anyway.

Agree with don't go to the hospital until you're really ready.  THe longer you're there the more they can intervene.

Millions of women have done this before and we can too!

Well, if you were going to tear (some do not), you are going to tear reguardless of drugs or not...the only resolution to tearing is an epesidomy (sp)....I would not recommend that though, tearing is more natural!!

Have your husband, or significant other start messaging your tant, to stretch it out with Olive oil...there are directions on the internet on techniques....I have heard that it works.

Just think of all that your body is going through to prepare for that day....all this time for anywhere from 2-16 hours or so...to have a baby in the end.  Just think about taking it one contraction at a time, and that it will soon be all over.  You will soon forget about the pain after you see your little one!!

Sure I am worried about the pain, and I am not going to lie...IT HURTS!!  Probably the worst pain I have ever felt....like I said, you just have to make it through...my advice, and I didn't do this with my son, but I will with this one....stay at home and deal with the contractions as long as you can...in a confortable environment, with lots of distractions...where you can take a bath, and sit on an exercise ball..hell walk around naked.....when you get to the hospital they will hoook you up to tubes and monitors...and that is when you are in the place to get the drugs most people opt for the drugs...I attempted to get an epidural when I went in, at about 5 cms dialated...I believe it slowed it down, and I still felt the pain!!  The faster the better.....

I would go in when your water broke or the contractions are about 3 mins apart, and constant!!!

We will all get through this, it is what our bodies were designed for...proof is in the belly!!
