Those of you who already had baby..

jw if those of you who had baby early had contractions for days/weeks before labor? or if anyone was dilated before labor began? or if you dilated while you were in labor?

just wondering cuz i have contractions..painful at times, every day (but they always go away for a few hours then come back go away..blah) but i wasnt dilated at my last appt last wed. and no bloody show yet. i'll be 37 weeks this wed. and they could feel her head and said my cervix was very soft.  so i guess im wondering if im close i am to having her.. or if none of this really matters for how close she is to being born?

Oh gosh that makes me feel heaps better brandiw lol.  I think I might be safe, I said it a few days ago fingers crossed.  I still think I am a few weeks away which is reassuring.  The earliest my last baby came was 2 weeks so I will be happy with that lol

I only had a handful of braxton hicks contractions that I could feel my entire pregnancy.  My water broke at around 6:45am the morning my son ended up being taken by c-section at 10:47am because he was breech.  While monitored, it turns out I was having several contractions I couldn't even feel.  By about 8:30 or 9am I could finally feel them, but only a little bit - even the bigger ones.  Right before surgery, I finally felt two "big" contractions.  I was only dilated 1 cm after my water broke - they checked at around 7:45am and didn't check again since they moments later they discovered baby was breech and I was going c-section.

oh my gosh brandi that sounds like a TERRIBLE labour!!!  I would hate to be induced or for them to try and stop labour - I don't think I would be able to handle it.

My braxton hicks are not that sore but I am feeling constipated at times.  I felt like that when I was in labour because baby was pushing down there but my doctor said that I probably have some right up by my tummy causing the discomfort.  I find if I have a sore tummy my braxton hicks are worse.  I have a midwife appointment today so I am going to ask what I can take to get my bowel moving.

Sunworshipper - I think the only reason I want the baby to stay in is because I am not ready yet lol.  I think 3-4 weeks longer would be nice so I can do a few more things.  I also think I am not getting frustrated because I know I am no where close to going into labour.  I know my body and I know the signs to look out for and I haven't really had any so I will just keep thinking about the latest due date and if baby comes early then thats a BONUS but please not too early lol

oh and by the way, I was only 32 weeks pregnant. I had a scheduled c-section for January 31 and the VERY last thing on my mind was having my babies when I did!

The entire week before I had my twins, I was in labor (but I just thought they were "practice" contractions) without even realizing it. I was miserable all week. My back hurt, I was nauseous, I couldn't get comfy. I even went to the OBGYN the day before I gave birth for my regular check up & everything was fine. My doctor didn't check my cervix or anything, so I'm not sure if I was already dilated or if it came on suddenly.

The next morning when I went to the hospital with contractions every 2-3 minutes, I was already 4cm dilated. That night after 14 hours of labor and being dilated to a 6 or 7, I had my c-section. Reason why they waited so long to do the c-section was because they were attempting to stop labor. But once I reached the 6-7cm mark, there was no turning back.

I forgot to mention, I take rasphberry leaf tea and a natural pre birth spray.  I started this tea this week and the pre birth spray I start at 37 weeks.  The only reason I take them is because I took them with my first two and my labours were great.  I'm too scared to stop incase this labour turns to custard lol.

With my daughter I was so sick of getting the practise contractions at night then they would stop in the morning so when I REALLY went into labour I asked my husband to have sex with me because I didn't want it to stop - I had already been up all night the few nights prior and I wasn't going to let these ones stop lol.  The only reason I was confused was because all I had were contractions, no bloody show what so ever so it makes it hard to distinguish between false and real labour pains until they don't stop lol.

Sorry if tmi but we were about to and then I got another contraction so we didn't.  I then drank my tea very early in hopes it would keep it going.  I was in denial all day I was in labour because my daughter was 2 weeks early.  I even drove to my friends house and had coffee with her in the morning while I was contracting thinking they were going away.  I had to say to her I think I need to go because I am getting sore now lol.  I had my daughter at 828 that night and I was home by 11am the next morning.  I gave my friend a call and she said so do we have a baby and I said yep and we are home now, she just couldn't stop laughing.

I guess all I am saying is we are coming down to the final weeks and these weeks just drag on.  I like to prepare myself mentally that baby will arrive at week 40 because if baby is early its a bonus and if baby is late then I only have from week 40 to get frustrated.

I went from irregular contractions 4-7min apart fo days with a lost mucus plug too and no dilation or anything. It was like that for three days prior to delivery then went from that to 1cm dialated to three hrs later her being born. The drs missed my active labor completely. So everyone is different you can go from 0-10 in an hour you could go weeks at 3cm and so on. Babies are frustrating bc they come on their own time frame and they dont consult us or give us too much of a heads up that is clear

But sex, walking, yoga ball, hands and knees scrubbing floors and pineapple are supposedly safe. I have heard the raspberry leaf tea is safe but always check with your ob first

Those are all great ideas majikat.  I am fortunate that my labours including my miscarriage were all exactly the same except faster. In knowing this I know I am no where close to baby coming out.  With my other two I never had a bloody show and my waters didn't break until just before they were born.  The only sign I had were contractions which didn't stop.

About a week or two before I actually went into labour I had braxton hicks all night and then it would stop.  I have never had my cervix checked before labour with any of my pregnancies so I have never known how far dilated I was until I got to hospital and I was 8cms with my first and 9 with my second.

Majikat is so right - you never know when they want to come.  They can be very stubborn and it is just a waiting game now.  I would count down from your due date rather than relying on the pain you are feeling in the hopes that baby will be early because it will just make the last few weeks miserable.  I hope that makes sense.  You never know you could still go past your due date which is also very common with first pregnancies or even most pregnancies.

Goodluck and I hope you start feeling better soon

I have had contractions painful ones since about 14 weeks... They mean nothing until they get consistent and more painful and closer together....

With my first pregnancy I was having them for about 2 weeks before labour and I was dialated 1 cm for over a month

With my second preg I had no BH and I went into labour at 36 weeks and it stalled at 5 cm and then I didnt go into labour till 41 weeks 3 hrs before my scheduled induction lol....

Babies are stubborn lol they like to keep us on our toes lol... There is really no way to predict when it will happen until it actually does.... Anticipation makes time slow down so much....

Like with this preg I am so surprised that I am actually still pregnant lol all the painful contractions baby fully engaged for over a month now.... Bloody show 3 days ago... Mucus plug for a few weeks now... 2 cm dilated....

I have been doing a couple things to help my uterus and cervix get ready.... Eating lots of FRESH pineapple to help soften the cervix it has the same stuff in it as sperm.... 3 cups of red raspberry tea a day... With my second baby my labour was 30 mins I think cause of the tea.... Sex with orgasm :)  lol orgasm produces contractions and the sperm softens the cervix.... I have been walking everyday lots cause it's supposed to help regulate contractions with my first preg I walked up a very very steep hill in hopes that it would start labour and it did cause 4 hours later I was at the hospital..... Sitting on a yoga ball helps to open the pelvis for the head to move down into position....cleaning washing floors by hand lol... I am willing to try anything that is safe and wont harm my baby....
