Baby Showers!!

I know that our baby showers will be here before we know it and I had a few questions about them as mine is next Saturday. Do you buy the host and cohost a gift for throwing you the shower? If so, is there a price amount that I should stick with? It's my BFF and then Eric's mom and I want to do something nice for them. Any ideas??

Also, I'm getting mixed reviews because some people are telling me not to have games at the shower because no one likes them and people are also saying to have them because they are fun and loosen people up. What do you ladies think about games? I'm posting a poll below - please pick either your favorite game or preference. Thanks!!

my baby shower is dec 4th, we are going back home to florida to have it since my mom was the only one to offer to throw one, and since i know she doesnt need all those spendings on her own, i have decided to help her.. so im kinda hosting my own baby shower... no one where we live now has offered so i doubt we will have one here... we were going to do gift cards only or online gifts what we could pick up at the store here but... hubby being military has up to 3 , 100lbs and 80in bags at no charge with this airline, so we are just going to let people give us what they want and just bring as much as we can... (i doubt we will get a lot of the big stuff from ppl other than family and i dont feel bad telling them to just buy it online...)

Anyways... i love games... so i would say hte more the better... i love the bingo, the soda bottle (where guests race to drink a baby bottle full of soda), and the baby food one... i have also seen the dress the doll, or toilet paper diaper... there is a bunch of games u can play but it all depends on what u like, and what your guests are like.. i know in my case most if not all of my guests will be more than willing to play games... so i guess it all depends...

OMG I saw that on Teen Mom too totally made me cry!  I bet if you google it you could find one. My Grandma would record on cassette tapes her voice as she read books and then she would mail them to me. I still have them and I think I treasure them more now than I did as a child. She is still alive but as an adult we see how much the gesture means, something we couldn't understand as children. The book is such a great idea!

I can't wait for my shower, food and friends nothing better than that and of course all of the gifts. People are SO generous when it comes to baby gifts. I'm so excited!  Have a GREAT time Lil!  It's going to be SO much fun!!

Thanks so much ladies for all of the advice and information! I definitely want to play a few games because I think they are fun. And if people dont want to play then they dont have to. I just think its a good way to get everyone to loosen up especially when not everyone knows one another. I am super excited and cannot wait!! Sun - what great news that you got permission to have a shower. You will have a blast im sure. There's nothing like good food and company and lots and lots of gifts.

As for the host gifts I was thinking about getting my friend a gift card. That way im not wasting my $$ on something she may not use. As for Eric's mom I think its a great idea to get her a Grandma book. It is something that will be kept for many years and one day our girls will probably get to see it.

Oh and does anyone know where you can buy one of those childrens books where you can record your own voice? I saw one on Teen Mom and I thought it was the coolest thing in the world. I would love to have my grandparents record a story for their great grandaughters :)

I am so excited for you guys, baby showers are always fun.  Unfortunately I am not having a baby shower because I think you should only have one baby shower with your first pregnancy :(.

At my first baby shower we did a few games which was fun and exciting plus lots and lots of food.  I am planning a baby shower for my friend who is about 5 weeks behind me with her first so I will find that exciting :)

Goodluck with your baby showers

No poop in the diaper game eeeeewww I enjoyed games at the ones I've gone to when it's like one or two. Or if there is food or booze that loosens people up too ;).

Good question about the gifts I bet you could get Eric's mom and Grandma book she might like that. Or gift certificates for mani pedis?

Also we got permission from our Rabbi to do a baby shower!!  It will be in Jan maybe the 9th I'm excited!  Can't wait to hear how yours goes! :)

Definitely yes to the gifts. My first shower is in two weeks and I plan to take care of that hostess gift this weekend.

As for games, you should do what YOU want to do. I don't like games and told my hostesses for each shower I didn't want games. But that is only my preference. If I attended a shower with games, I'd happily play knowing it's what the mommy-to-be wanted.  The shower is all about you... and it's pretty much the last event in your life that will be all about you... so do whatever makes you happy!

I have always been a fan of the bingo!  Never a winner, but always a fan!  I think that 2-3 games would be just fine. My personal fave is a game that makes the participants think of names of candies and candy bars that describe different pre and post pregnancy situations. For example:  Sex life before baby would be "Good and Plenty" and Sex life after baby would be "Zero". It's really fun and always brings out the best laughter!

The food poo in diaper game is gross!  Please don't play that! :)

I think it's hard to put a price tag that works for everyone on the hostess gifts.  You should definitely get them something, but we all come from such different circumstances that it's hard to say there's one right price for everyone.  That being said, I will likely spend about $30 on each hostess gift, to include some delectable handmade chocolate truffles but I haven't decided what else yet.

Natasha - Maybe just have some family and friends over and tell them the occasion is to celebrate the new baby. I'm sure that they will all come baring gifts :)  I will let you know how mine goes, im actually nervous because I dont like being the center of attention!

Becky - The baby bingo sounds like a perfect idea to get the focus off of me. My friend asked what kind of baby shower games to play and I told her that the bingo was good, some scratch off tickets when you walk in, and his mom insisted on us doing the one where they put the string around my belly to see how fat I am. I'm not excited about that game at all! haha  There will be people there I havent seen in a while and would rather just be able to catch up with everyone.

For the people to chose Guess the Baby Food game.... how do you disguise the food? Do you make them wear a blindfold?

I am not really a big games fan but its kind of nice to play the gift bingo while you are opening your presents. It really takes the pressure off of you being the center of attention. I don't like all those people staring and putting full focus on me- I would much rather they be paying attention to their bingo cards and trying to win gifts =)
