Playing with toys

When did your baby start intentionally reaching, grabbing, putting things in mouth, etc? Annabelle is 13 weeks now and doesn't want to touch or grab anything except her bottle, paci, or my hand. She is very alert, watches everything, will follow with her eyes and turn her head, laughs, coos, responds to the sounds toys make... but she will not put her hands on any of them. Odd?

Ellie has been reaching out and holding toys for almost a month. The first time was 2 months but consistently at 3.5 months. Though I've heard it doesn't usually happen till four months. However if your child isn't doing something it probably means they are working on a different milestone. Its like they forget everything else to focus on accomplishing one thing

My twins are just now starting to grab at toys. They're 5 months old, but 3 months adjusted age (from being born 2 months early). They've noticed toys for quite a while, but here in the last few weeks have taken an interest in reaching and grabbing them. Carly loves to put anything in her mouth too. She takes my hand all the time and shoves my fingers in her mouth.

My little one went through a phase where he hated tummy time, too.  Hated it at first, then didn't mind, then hated, now almost immediately rolls over when we try tummy time.  His tummy barely touches the mat before he rolls over onto his back.  It's kind of a fun little game! :)  He did it 5 or 6 times in a row last week and I was cracking up.

Trh0819, don't worry Emily and Annabelle will soon play and grab toys. Its true what ur hubby says later on we won't like them putting everything in their mouths. Lol. That's when we have to be extra careful and not have Lil things laying around.

Mommy0124 ur Lil Amy is a cutie crank calling people. Lol

Annabelle is same way. She loves to sit up in her Bumbo by herself or on your lap if held, but she's not rolling yet and she still doesn't like tummy time, although she doesn't fight it like she use to. I'm trying not to worry about the touching and holding thing.... guess she'll do it when she's ready. My husband says to leave her alone. Soon she'll be touching EVERYTHING and I'll want her to stop. HA!

Amy would bat mostly till about mid last week when she actually takes the links hanging to her carseat and puts them in her mouth, she will try to hold her bottle but its too heave so it falls and she gets frustrated, she does hold her paci in her mouth at times and also pulls on the paci holder when she doesnt want it in her mouth... she wants to eat her winnie the pooh lubby really bad but she is teething so i guess its norm for everything to go in... but other than that she doesnt really want to hold anything she has a little hippo rattle that she likes but only when i make noise with it, she wont hold it... she tries to hold the teething toy in her mouth but i guess because its cold she wont, oh i forgot to mention she is 14 weeks, she too talks wayy to muchh she left voicemails to 5 diff family members today lol... and wants to laugh really bad but cant get it out... she smiles and it looks like shes laughing on the inside its really funny... shes doing everything backwards wont roll and doesnt like tummy time anymore (used to do about 10 mins straight now not even 5) but she wants to sit!! if i am holding her she wants to be sitting if on the bed sitting... etc.. she does really well with little support but still needs some time...

This is helpful. My week by week book said she should start batting at 9 and 10 weeks and grabbing at 11. Well none of that ever happened. Even tonight I took a teething type toy that was cold and put it to her mouth just to see what she'd do. She started licking it and kind of sucking it but when I put it to her hand, she pulled back and wouldn't hold it. Of course it was cold so I tried one that wasn't and she didn't want to touch it either. But she'll look at everything, make lots of noise, and go nuts on her changing table talking up a storm. I noticed at 12 weeks she started putting her hands on her bottle when she takes one and she'll put her hand on her paci.

Hmmm...I should start writing this stuff down...but I think it was at about 14/15 weeks when he started trying - the concentration in his eyes/"voice" was very entertaining!...probably around 16.5 weeks before he was actually successful/consistent.  Now all toys go straight to his mouth!

My Lil Emily does the samething as Annabelle but Emily is only 10 weeks old. She won't grab her toys. I was wondering when will she start. When she was days old she would grab and hold her paci. I figure she would grab anything else when she's older but I guess not.
