Trouble Sleeping on Side

I am 15 weeks preggers and have been reading how it's best to sleep on your left side. I normally sleep on my back, but have been trying to make the transition over the last couple of weeks.  I've slept with a body pillow for over 6 years now, so I do have that to prop between my legs when on my side.

Part of the problem is we have a TERIBBLE mattress!!  It causes me incredible pain in my hips to sleep on my side and I eventually roll over to my back just to get some sleep.  Plus I wake up stiff and in pain in the morning.  There is no way that we can afford to buy a new mattress.

My questions are this: Are there any suggestions on what I can do?  Is there a cheaper alternative then buying a whole new mattress?  Should I try a different body pillow.  When in your pregnancy did you find you HAD to sleep on your side?

Thanks ladies!  I did check out the memory foam this weekend and ordered a topper from JcPenny.  I can't wait for it to get here!  I'm also going to get a new pillow to put between my legs because my old one is SO flat.

yeah you should be able to find a down pillow top or memory foam topper for much much cheaper then a new mattress.  Target has some and so do jcpenny and kohls. they have a wide variation of prices. you should be able to check their websites to see prices and then be able to call the store and see if they have it in stock or order it online. I personally would want to feel it first especially with the memory foam

I have been having trouble sleeping also. My side is good but I feel unbalanced without a pillow between my legs. I keep waking up on my front and it kinda hurts my belly. I have heard the "Snoogle" works great. It runs about $50 though. As for a mattress solution, there are memory foam pads you can get that go over the mattress. They are really squishy and comfy. Look for them around the mattress pad aisle.
