Echogenic bowel?

Hi ladies, I will be honest I am freaking out right now. We went to 20 week sono today and got to see the baby moving and kicking, sucking thumb and giving us a thumb up. Just magical. Then the doctor comes in and tell us that everything looks perfect, except what she called echogenic bowel. Basically fancy term for blood in a bowel. Which is a marker for downs. I had a 12 week nt test done and the chance came back 1 in 100000 which is terrific. I am 32, my SO is 42. No history on both sides. So, now they sent me for extra blood work. And then amnio is still an option. Me and my boyfriend are just in shock. Does anyone know anything about it or maybe did experience it personally. The dr also mentioned that everything else looks perfect and it could be that baby swolloed blood from the hemorroging that I had in the first trimester.

I went to a dr today and she went through all the previous results in detail. I had NT done at 12 weeks - negative. I am not a carrier for cystic fibrosis. Negative for evrything. The blood test that was done yesterday is called informateq.  She said it's very accurate 99%. They actually can extract fetal DNA from my blood. However,  she said only amnio is 100 per cent. I had a day from hell today with the drs calling back. Long story short I am getting a referral for amnio tomorrow.  I hate the idea of stressing the baby out for no reason but my boyfriend wants to know for sure. The thing is the blood result will be back in 2 weeks which will put me at 22 weeks and if god forbid it's abnormal I have to do the amnio and that takes another 2 weeks. So when by the time that's done I am 24 weeks and it is a cut off for any decision making. I am not trying to start ethical debates over here, and I am trying to focus on the positive. Personally, my intuition tells me there is nothing wrong, but my boyfriend is besides himself with worry. Don't get me wrong, I am worried too. I barely slept today but I guess I would take a chance of waiting for blood reaults. I am very tired at this point. I need to sleep on it. My only worry is not even the test itself, although it doesn't sound pleasant, but the fact that there is a good a chance we are messing with my child juat peacefully hanging out there.

The dr also said I tested negative for all infections and viruses associated with EB.

Even 1 out of 10,000 is incredibly good. Make sure you talk to your Dr. about the benefits and risks of the amnio, but also about what the echogenic bowel may mean. If you were hemorrhaging, there's a solid chance that that's the reason for it. Fingers crossed for you both! Let us know when you find out more.

I hope everything works out and you and baby are both healthy.

Did you get a second round of testing?  I had a sequential screen which takes blood at around 12 weeks and 17 weeks.

Also, I was typing so fast and added an extra 0 to NT results. The odds were 1 to 10 000, which don't get me wrong I still think it's pretty good.

Hi Diane, thank you so mucb for your support. They said 10 business days. I am really considering amnio. I just can't relax with everything we read about it. I usually avoid dr google, but I wanted to be prepared for tomorrow's Dr's appointment. Unfortunately,  had to find out some information about it just to understand better what to look out for.

It's more common than you would think. A relative of mine who was pregnant with her first at 35 had it as a soft marker on all of her ultrasounds from 19 weeks on up. Her daughter is perfectly healthy! She too, was given the option of an amino, but she elected not to get it because of the risk of miscarriage. You odds for DS are remarkably low and that's very hopeful. When will the additional blood work results be back?
