Gestational diabetes

Hi does anyone have gestational diabetes and how are you controlling it? I'm 30 weeks and 1day I found out at 29 weeks that I have gestational diabetes.

Everyone's situation will be different, especially if you are on insulin or other medications vs being diet controlled. I'm diet controlled (for 2 years) so I have to be very mindful of what I eat and I had to learn what foods made my sugar spike. I NEVER recommend trying to eat a certain amount of carbs, I believe we should limit them as much as possible unless your sugar dips too low. Focus on eating as many leafy green veggies as possible. Drink lots of water. And try to limit your carbs cutting out bread, rice and sugar of course. Keep in mind some things that sound healthy are not actually good for diabetics. For example, oatmeal, squash, wheat bread and so on. You might want to look up paleo. And make sure you have a dr you trust that has experience with diabetes. And do your research. Forums like this are okay, but we're not doctors, lookup medical journals and studies from legit sources that are current and up to date. When I was first diagnosed I asked my dr if there was any way I could ever get off meds and he told me it was possible but very unlikely. So I was always online and found what works for me and I was off meds in 2 months. Good luck :)

I like eating quality meat because it helps with my sugar readings. Keep in mind protein, fat and fiber act almost as a buffer so that if you consume carbs or sugar it won't spike as quickly or as high. And you have to be eating some sugar because many vegetables have sugar, even if it is in small amounts. Also if you're having trouble with getting yoyr sugar lower why eat bran flakes? It's just carbs essentially. You should be focusing on eating as much salad (be careful of salad dressing, no sugar) and quality protein and nothing else. After your numbers are under control you can gradually add different things into the mix, but pay attention to your numbers. I started off super strict paleo and now I am more paleo/Atkins. When I have a sugar craving I reach for an atkins bar that has less than 2 grams of sugar, lots of fiber and less than 4 net carbs. But right now look up all vegetables and meats so that you have a very clear idea of what you're eating. Because sugar/carbs are what makes our sugar go up, unless your organs have experienced more damage in which everything you eat will raise your blood sugar to uncontrollable numbers. But I don't think that would be the case unless you were a diabetic well before being pregnant. And drink lots of water

So what did work for you for you to come off meds. I am trying to control it. I only eat veg and fish no meat. I have cut down on my portion size of meals. I do not eat any sugar or foods containing sugar. I eat a lot of veg and salad. Bran flakes for breakfast. It has improved my blood sugar levels. But not enough as i need it to. What helps you?

I really think you should consult with your gyn, and a dietetician to get your diet and blood sugar in balance.

I am 28 weeks now. I control it with diabetic diet. Eating slowly absorbed carbohydrate only in the morning, 25 g. Then 20 g az 10:00 am, half slowly, half quickly absorbed. For lunch 50 g, half-half. Az 3 pm 20 g, this can be only quick. At 5  pm I should eat  dinner, 40 g carbohydrate, one third quick, the rest slow. And at 9 pm I eat 20 g slow only for the night. I
