food schedule and amount

question, how many times a day should our babies eat? and how much, how many ounces 2 ounces or 4. I was told that they should have 3 meals a day, and 4 ounces in each meal. I think that is a lot, James is eating 2 meals a day, we started 3 a day but then he did not want to drink much milk so I changed to lunch and dinner only, but each meal he eats about 2 ounces of his solid food maybe less.
He drinks his formula well, about 6-8 ounces every 3-4 hours, so what do you guys think or are doing with your LO.

Jack has been fighting the ear infection since Thanksgiving. It's gone from left ear to both ears to just left ear to both ears again. He uses Born Free bottles and we feed him upright, just barely tilted! Poor guy. I don't know. Now it seems more like a really deep cough in his chest. He is in daycare full time and all the kids have the same thing. What a mess.

Dani- Colter is so cute, he definitly wants to try thiings on his own. James wants to hold his spoon when he is eating but what a mess.

FirstCub-Poor little Jack with an ear infection, is this his first one? What kind of bottle you use to feed him? what position you place him too? The reaso I ask is bc people say that to avoid ear infections we should fee our babies more on the upright postion instead of laying back too much to avoid ear infections. Who knows if is true or not, but give it  a try just in case.

Jack's eating is all over the place thanks to his head cold, ear infections and tummy bug. But I think he's getting back his appetite. Lately (because he's sick) he's having a 6 oz bottle when he wakes up, then daycare gives him half to a whole container of food with some rice cereal (depends how much he wants). Then day care gives him another bottle around 11 a.m. or so and he usually naps and that bottle is like 4 to 6 oz (because he's been sick he's def. not eating like he used to). He usually has another bottle before I pick him up at 5 p.m. When we get home I give him more food (sweet potatoes, pears, squash, etc) with rice cereal...then I do my Wii Fit exercises! Ha. Then I take Jack up for a bath (not every night) and put on PJ's...then final bottle of 6-7 oz. and bed.
How much he'll drink from that bottle these days just depends on how he's feeling. I am worried he's not getting enough bottle-wise. His ears hurt when he eats and it's just not happening like it used to! But....he's getting there.

In the jars I am using has 2.5 oz in the Stage 1 foods and 4 oz in the Stage two.

And I would be sooo happy if Colter would hold his bottle.  He gets so mad when you try to "help" him do something.  I was teaching him to turn the light switch on and off and he plays with it himself but as soon as I move his hand to the switch he pulls away and gives me such a dirty look...the same with the bottle LOL!

thanks again, now everything it makes sense, I am going to keep doing what I am doing with James.
Could one of you tell me how many ounces are in the babay's jar food. I home made mine and I don't really know for sure.

I've been wondering the same!  Eternidad - we must have read the same info bc I've been concerned as well.  Cash used to drink 32oz a day, but when we started two solid feedings as opposed to one he went down to about 25 - 27oz a day.  So, I;m leary to up his solid intake.  He has 4 bottles a day.  He has 2oz of fruit and 2tablespoons of oatmeal in the morning and he has 2oz of a veggie and 2 tablespoons of rice in the evening.  We are trying the Stage 2 foods (or 4oz of homemade) this week, but if it effects his formula intake I will back down - or maybe try to space it out in 3 meals instead of two.

Dani - Cash has been holding his bottle since about 4 months.  It is SO funny how each of our LOs reach milestones at completely different times!  Some have crawlers - I don't yet, Cash isn't really interested and when he does he scoots backwards.  Some have rollers.  Some have expert independent sitters.  Some babies hold their bottle.  Some do sippie cup already.  And others can drink from a cup.  Some are babbling up a storm others have quiter babes.  It's just amazing how they all develop in their own time.  Amazing little gifts from God!

I AM SO GLAD YOU POSTED THIS...WAS WANTING OPINIONS ON THE SAME THING :)

Colter is eating like crazy lately.  He went from 3-4 ounces of forumla every two hours to 6-8 ounces.  He also gets a good amout of cereal mixed with fruit in the morning.  About a jar of stage one food for lunch and at supper we are just now introducing stage 2 food and I mix that with stage one just in case he has any allergies and to make it easier on his tummy.  THEN at night I give him a whole jar of stage one fruit.  He just had 8 ounces of formula as well.
Doesn't this sound like alot?????
What is crazy is he is just now 15 pounds.  I don't know what to think, for as much as he eats you would think he would weigh more.  He is crazy active though.  Even when he has his bottle his arms fly around and he moves around.  He spends all his time trying to crawl, rolling over and standing.  My dr. warned me from about two weeks that he was considered an "active baby" and he was right!!

Also, anyones LO holding their own bottle yet?

I still breast feed, so Medina drinks when she's thirsty and I don't know how much she drinks but her nappies are full which is always a good sign.

She eats two meals a day and I would like to introduce breakfast after I introduce meats in her diet which is later this week. I also wonder how much should baby eat but I feed her until she's full. For lunch about half a tub (or 3-4 large ice cubes) and in the evening, 1/2 a tub of fruit or 1/2 - 3/4 of a banana. Usually from 9 months, it becomes more important as to the amount they eat. I also wonder how much they should eat, but as kaprovea already wrote, it's not that important at the moment.

Also dont forget on various days baby usually eats more or less than usual.

It sounds like James is doing well.  Right now it isn't important that they are getting the nutrition of the baby food.  It is more to transition them to eating on a schedule like adults when they are toddlers.  Joel eats 4 bottles (7-8 oz) a day and has 1/4 cup of cereal for breakfast and a tub of stage one food.  He is 5 1/2 months.  At his 4 month appointment the doctor told us that we should start with one meal and maybe by his next appointment at 6 months he will be up to 2 or 3 meals.  He also told me that it shouldn't affect how much milk/formula that he is drinking.  That he should still be getting at least 24 oz of formula.  I would say stick to what you are doing.  I am planning on moving Joel up to eating 3 meals a day when he finishes being introduced to all the baby foods.
