Layla is on stage 2 foods and stage 1 meats. The meat consistency is the same as stage 2 vegetables...a little bit thicker but Layla didnt even notice the change from stage one foods to stage 2. I personally love the stage 2 compared to the stage 1 bc they are less watery and they dont get all over her bib, clothes, face, and everything else within a 5 foot radius.
So JT's pediatrician told me to wait till he is 8 months to feed him meats but since he is doing good with stage 2 foods if I want I could move him up to stage 3 foods by the time he is 7 months.
JT is eating stage 2 foods, but I planned on asking his pediatrician when she recommends we start him on meats at his 6 month check up tomorrow.
Oh, see now that's what I need! I will look into it now!! Thanks!
Dani- if you want to make easy home made foods look into buying the Beaba baby food maker, is a blast. I love it you can cook, blend and thaw all your baby food in the same container and it is quite easy too.
zazou- "back to Oz" LOL! I have all the stuff to prepare my own food, even a book I haven't bothered reading. Any tips to making easy veggies???
So the stuff that does say "stage 1" turkey or something is something I should or could give him now? Anyone else just start on fruits and veggies and are planning on trying the brands that say stage one for the meat??
I think when they say "meats" it's referring to home made stuff that you can't get as smooth as the store brought stuff. I have read and been told by my MCHN that meats are introduced around seven months or later if your baby isn't sitting up yet.
Howvever, like you Dani, i have found stage one store brought foods which contain meats and okay from about 4 months.
The stages are really referring to the consistency of the food.
i think it's a personal choice when you introduce and feel comfortable but stage one store brought meat foods would be okay from now i think.
I didn't start meat with Anika until she was 12 months but that was our choice. Not sure what we are going to do with Iliana this time around. She seems to have more of an appetite than what Anika had so we may be starting meat earlier to fill her up a bit more.
I don't really understand the stage 1 or stage 2 stuff (I'm an Aussie living in Germany but going back to Oz soon woohoo!!) but it varies. Our paediatrician actually told us it is OK at the moment (from 6 months), most books I've read say from 7 months. I prepare my own food and I wanted to start out with chicken or carrots and potato in chicken broth and then move only to pureeing meat. It varies I guess but I'm starting soon as I still BF and am worried about anaemia (babies need more iron from 6 months of age). Something interesting is that various new studies have found that the more finely ground the meat is, the more easily the body can absorb this iron (for those who prepare their own food).
I know that they are suppose to move up to stage 2 when they are sitting without support. I thought the meats said that they were stage 2 but different companies could put meats at different stages.
Oh, so they must stay on stage one foods for a while??
My doctor told me that you don't start meats until 9 months. They are grainier and thicker.
