Shooting pains in crotch.

Hello all,

For the past couple weeks I have been getting pretty bad shooting pains that feel like they are directly in my cervix. They actually make me flinch, and double over, at first they were very few and far between so I wasn't worried about them. The past few days I have gotten them a lot and they are bad, it is only a split second but it hurts like h*ll.
I looked up on babycenter. com what it could be and all I could find is that it is normal later in pregnancy and it is a sign of your cervix dialating, that scares me.
DF swears that I got them with Noah this early but I think it was later on and I dont think they were this bad.
I see my OB next Wednesday so I will mention it but I want your opinions, have any of you felt this same thing?

I have this same feeling, mine don't always hurt, sometimes just enough for me to notice them, my OB told me it was the baby kicking my cervix, but that worries me now that you said it can be a sign of your cervix dilating!!

Rose----i understand your worry, babe.  I keep feeling stuff like that too---that's why i try really hard to focus and isolate the sensation, so i can figure it out (i love to solve! lol)... keep an eye on it, and jot a little journal of when you feel it, what you're doing when you feel it, etc, and a description of the pain.  That should help your doc pinpoint what's going on.  And don't take a brush-off for an answer (i hate that more than anything!!).  If your doc tries to say "oh it's probably just such and such", then respectfully say:

"I understand you probably get these sorts of complaints all the time, but it's very important to me to *know* what is going on with my body.  I've written down as much detail as possible about what I'm experiencing and I'd appreciate your help in diagnosing the actual pain that I'm experiencing."

If they still blow you off, dump them, complain to your insurance company since they endorse them as a provider, and find a new doc.  I don't care if it's the day before you deliver, doctors who treat patients that way have been allowed to do so for way too long and they put us all at risk.

jess-I just really dont think that's what it is, it really feels like it is right in my cervix, maybe you are right though. Thanks for your help :) I will try stretching a little. It does seem like Evan is feet down a lot too so I wonder if he is kinda standing on my cervix or kicking a nerve or something.

Now that you say it's when you're up and around and moving, my money is on round ligament pain.  Sometimes you can help minimize the discomfort by "warming up" before you get going... doing some mild stretches and whatnot just to limber up and help warm up your muscles (and thereby prepare ligaments).  This tells your body to loosen up because you're about to get going.  I hope that helps you, hun.

Sorry its so painful!!  I know it *****.  Hang in there, and yeah do let us know.

I'm sure it is normal and it's just stretching and maybe from the baby kicking my cervix or something but it is hard not to worry since it is so painful. Mine are only when I am up and moving around, maybe my body is telling me to slow down.
Dani-please do let me know if you fine anything and I will let you guys know what my dr says next week

Just another thought, but often round ligament pain presents as sharp pain in the groin/crotch.  Doc told me at my visit last week that she is head down and I felt her drop, and have noticed an increase in both pressure and pain down there.  I keep mentally checking to see if it is my cervix as well (focusing and isolating the sensation to pinpoint it), and while it feels very close and i could be wrong, it seems to be ligaments most of the time, and then the occasional gas bubble (those hurt like SO BAD when she's dropped, and are very sharp),  Yours may be either ligament, or it's also common to have a pain exactly as you describe from the baby putting pressure on a nerve there, with the increasing weight of your little jelly bean.

If that is the case, you probably *did* have these pains this early as your husband recalls, but you are right also in that you don't recall your cervix starting to open so early because it probably didn't (and isn't now).  If that makes sense... so it could be that both of you are right!

Let us know what the doc says

I am going to ask my dr. the same thing on Friday.  Mine are just very few and far between right now, and it seems like at night when I am laying down for the night, but they scare me to death.  I keep feeling like they are going to get worse.  I also had a bit of cramping (it felt like it did in the begining of the pregnancy, after I went pee) I know for me at 24 weeks the baby is really growing and I am wondering if that is what it is or not.  I have been looking stuff up all morning and really didn't get many answers either.  I know that the shooting pain thing came up when I was either reading one of my many baby books, or it was one of my many email updates and I ignored it at the time since I wasn't having that problem.  What I did remeber reading was that many women panic about it and it is totally normal (which is why I didn't bother reading further into it).  Now I am going to try and search out the source.    Good luck, and I will let you know if I find out anyting!

I'm sorry - that sounds really uncomfortable.  I haven't had anything like that, but I'm a first timer and you know what they say - everyone is different.  Let us know what your Dr. says.  I hope it gets better for you!
