Rapidly Gaining Weight

I am only 5ft 1inch tall (short). Prepregnancy I weighed 142 pounds. Prior to then I was 175 pounds. In total I lost 33 pounds.

Now that I am pregnant I do not mind gaining the weight back, especially considering what I will have at the end of these 9 months :) I am now 10 weeks pregnant. I have gained almost 6 pounds since becoming pregnant. Everyone tells me to eat and be healthy for me and the baby, ect.... But, I am worried that I am putting on the weight too fast. According to some of my friends it looks like I'm already starting to "show"!

When i found out i was pregnant it forced me to start eating better. Im 10 weeks on Sunday and have actually lost 4lbs since i found out. I have to have meetings with a healthy eating advisor which is good cos she helps me to stay focused. 6lbs is not excessive but you should try and eat healthily and cut down on fatty foods.

Calculating you BMI from your start weight this was 27 so its only just on the overweight side so i wouldnt worry too much.  They say a healthy weight gain in total pregnancy for your BMI would be between 15 and 25lbs with rates of weight gain
2nd and 3rd trimester (average range/week) being 0.2kg to 0.3kg (0.5lb to 0.7lb).

Don't worry too much about it, as long as you and the baby are healthy at the end of it thats all that matters!

I am feeling the same way!  I went from 145 down to 130 in the last two years and now all of a sudden I went from 135 to 140-145 (depending on the day) since finding out I'm pregnant! I'm 5'9 and have gained already too. I think we are harder on ourselves more than we should be!  My midwife said to just watch my calorie intake and try not to exceed the normal daily amount.  She also said that this time of year - as winter is settling in and we are not as active as we are during the summer - it is totally common to gain a bit of extra weight.  She told me not to focus on it too much and just make healthy choices and that the weight will even out as the pregnancy moves on into the 2nd and 3rd trimesters.  I feel as if I've already popped - a little bit - pants are tight and I look very bloated and kinda fat!  So I'm there with ya - and I hope we both even out as our pregnancies continue on and we come out with very healthy babies!

I think it just matters what you eat, really. As long as its nutritious and not high in fat and salt etc - I say eat it. Now is not the time to stop trying to gain weight but just try to make good food choices all the time and minimise the gains.
And don't worry about showing - you're quite petite in height and all your organs are shifting to start making room for the growing bub and uterus - if you are not a big person where else can it go but out? I am 10 weeks tomorrow - 3rd bub and I am getting thick through my middle too with a little bulge out front and I am 5ft 9in.
