milky jelly-like mucus 24 hours after having sex, is this mucus plug?? 17 weeks

We had sex Christmas morning, me on top (sorry to be grapphic, but I'm worried) and this morning after a night of back cramps, I wake up and go to bthroom and there is a tangible milky jelly-like plug that I literally grabbed because when wiping it wouldn't come off and I reached down there to see what was going on.

I don't have cramps now. There was no blood, no odor at all. I did move by bowels too, so I wonder if the contractions from that caused this to fall out. I have been to hospital and had ultrasound aat 8 weeks, but haven't had OB/GYN appt because no insurance. I have medicaid now, first appt is tomorrow.

I'm confused and worried. This is not my first child. I'm 38 and 17 weeks pregnant. My last child was 7 years ago. I have an appt tomorrow morning, can I wait or should I go to ER? Was that a mucus plug?

i had the same thing happen me, i thought it was maybe having sex in the bath. as long as there is no blood, you should not worry. if it happened again i would see doc. your mucous plug regenerates so you may loose it a few times before you are ready to give birth. its scary though. i never had a plug with my first pregnancy so when i seen this at 14 weeks i thought "ohhh dear", im now 17 weeks and all seems to be well (touch wood) xo

Sorry, one other thing, was your mucous discharge pink or blood tinged?

In addition to anything I have mentioned, please keep in mind, that while I or others may have extensive knowledge in many areas, you should always seek professional medical advice from your own physician, as it pertains to medical conditions or concerns.

Good luck, and if you have any other questions that I can help you with, please feel free to message me directly.

Sincerely,
Sandi (Dragon1973)

Hello Solteria,

If you hadn't been pregnant before I would likely have said it's just mucous discharge but not your mucous plug.  But since you have been there before, despite mucous plugs being very different for each person and pregnancy I would definitely suggest you take a visit to the doctor, ob or ER.  I would hate for you to have some pre-term labour symptoms and not know.  Having sex when there isn't a mucous plug can introduce the possibility of infection so I would want to make sure it wasn't that you had seen.  Now, having said that, I have had some thick mucous discharge myself in my last pregnancy and even this one which I could have myself sworn was a mucous plug but I didn't have any symptoms that predated it, so I didn't worry.  If you had cramps and also a bowel movement (which you probably also realize are the same symptoms as preterm labour) I think it would be prudent to have things checked.  I know that not having insurance is a huge factor with you not going, but I wouldn't want something to be wrong and you regret not having gone.  Can you let us know what happens?  If you really cant get to the doctor, I would definitely suggest not having any intercourse or doing anything that requires you to be lifting or short of bed-rest if it's possible - just in case you have lost your mucous plug.   While losing a mucous plug early doesn't' necessarily mean labour is on the way or problematic (and I am not an expert at that) but you certainly want a clean bill otherwise.  Many women do loose their mucous plug very early on, so that isn't extremely unusual.  The only issue is bacteria, which is what the plug protects the baby from.  I hope this helps.  Please let us know.

I hope everything went well at the doctor for you. I can't answer anything about the sex things as I still haven't gotten up the courage to have it yet.
