birth plan adive

I have always planned on having an epidermal, but now i think i am going to go natural. Though i am 22 i am married and my baby was completely planned, which is shocking to most people My age. So naturally all of  my firends are all much older than me and none of them did an epidural. I have alway been terrified of an epidural but was still getting one now i dont want one and everyone that i tell that to looks at me like im crazy, any 2nd time moms out there that went natuarl and doi g it again or changing their mind about one this time around?

First of all, it's still natural if you have an epidural. My first I had two days of prelabor that meant zero sleep for 48 hours. Then twelve hours of active labor. I had to take phentonol and gas because I was so exhausted that I was in no frame of mind to labor well. However, I am convinced it slowed down my labor. So with my second I wanted to go drug free. I did, but my entire labor starts to finish was only 6.5 hours. So be easy on yourself. Have a plan if you want, but remember labor rarely goes as expected. I have a friend who was exhausted from 13 hours labor and the labor had sort of stalled. So she asked for an epidural. Fifteen minutes after she got it, she was pushing. It had allowed her labor to get going again. So in her case it was a good thing. You'll be a champion no matter how you get that baby out.

My first I had an epidural my second I went all natural. And I will say I am definitely going all natural again. It was a great birth experience and I cant wait to have another wonderful borth experience. Just remember you are in control of your birth!

At 16 I had my 1st natural, 2nd had an epidural and 3rd I try for epidural but was to swollen due to preeclampsia. I now have a scar and back pains!!! This birth I am planning on going natural. I pray that it plays out this way. Really would like to do a water birth :)

Had my first naturally and hope to do so with my second.  I too am keeping an open mind about the possibility of pain meds.  I had a wonderful nurse who very reassuringly reminded me i wanted to do it naturally when i said i wanted the drugs.

Your labor, you choose how to have it - just make sure you research all of your options so you can make an informed decision! Good luck!

Right. I think i want to plan on not doing one but make sure my nurse (who is also my aunt) keeps me informed to when we hit the point of no return, incase i change my mind.

There are other options for pain relief apart from epidural anyway, it would be only a last resort for me as they say it can slow down labour when really you want it over asap.

Give natural a go by all means! Just remember no one will judge you if you change your mind. :)

^^^I agree. I was 16 when I had my first and went natural (scared of the needle) Im going to attempt to go natural again depending on how things go. I may not be as tough this time around . lol

FYI my first was natural planned home birth with gas and air wanted the same for my second but I ended up in hopsital, everything was ok still just used gas and air but it hurt more and if it had carried on much longer I would have considered stronger pain relief.  Half way through my 3rd pregnancy and staying open minded.

My advice would be to have a birth plan but be open minded when you're in labour and do what feels right at the time.
