I honestly thought it was going to be worse than it was, and the nurse told me my contractions were very intense (water broke at 4cm) and that I had a super high pain tolerance. Lol the good thing is that they hurt really badly but you get a break in between them. They can tire you out (as being in pain does) but each contraction brings you closer to baby. During mine they discovered my daughter was transverse (sideways) and not progressing so I opted for the epidural so they could start pitocin and do an in-labour version to turn baby. She had mild dystocia but was only stuck for about a minute and is now a happy healthy 16 month old. Due with #2 in 3 weeks and I'm going to try natural this time.
I agree with both. I had my little man 2 weeks ago ( so the crazy pain is still fresh) i wanted a completely med free and iv free birth but ended up using the gas. However still pretty proud of myself. It is the worse pain imaginable. I would agree period like cramps but way worse. And consistant burning back pain. I will say before my first baby 3 years ago i expected it to be way worse. It is very painful but it is manageable. We are women and we are crazy strong!
My first babies birth was a total dream. I also did it 100% natural, no meds, at a birth center. I used hypnobirthing as my method to handle the discomfort... and it worked! Pain free birth all the way! It takes time, practice, and serious dedication. And most of all, its really important to not seek out other peoples painful birth experiences. It instills fear and fear causes the pain. So if you can, pay the horror stories no mind and believe in your body and baby to birth beautifully... and you will. Pain free! Good luck, you were built for this! P.s. im 38 weeks and plan on doing it all again very shortly. Cant wait!
Well, it's painful. I labored 17hrs-pain med free but on pitocin. Pitocin is evil-makes contractions harder & -2mins apart. It's the worst pain ever as above Ur back feels like it's breaking (I also had hard back labor-my son was reversed) it's knock U out pain. What helped me was deep meditation type breaths-breath in for the count of 4, out for 6. & holding on to the side rail. I eventually ended w a C. But I did it for the 17hrs. It's doable. In the end U don't really remember the pain. And it's so true once U look at Ur baby, everything just goes away.
Wow congratulations tough mama! I hope I can get thru it like you :)
I had a natural birth so it was the most intense pain I have ever felt I would say like period cramps times 10 you also feel like your back is going to split in two and let's not talk about the burning down there but once you see your baby you forget all about it. I'm expecting baby number two and most definitely want to try for another natural birth.
