Membrane Sweeping

Went to my weekly appointment and my doctor said next week if I'm still pregnant we can discuss trying to get this little girl out by next weekend (which is when I'm due anyways) if that's what my husband and I want to do. My doctor just so happens to be on-call that weekend, which would be great because obviously I would have someone that I'm comfortable with deliver her. Just wondering if anyone has had their membranes swept as I'm sure this is what she plans on doing. Kind of nervous because I heard it hurts like hell and it could take 48 hours for labor to start, if it works. My appointment is on the 23rd and my birthday is the 25th, I'm completely cool with sharing my birthday with my little girl but kind of scared to give her the nudge to get out. My doctor is very much in tune with my concerns for delivery as I live an hour away from the hospital I will be delivering at but she seems to think it will give me piece of mind and the "yes, this is actually happening head to the hospital" feeling. I have a few medical conditions (arthritis in my pelvis, irritable bowel syndrome) that I quickly write off any kind of discomfort for, so I've been nervous about ignoring the early signs of labor thinking it's just my body being my body. Has anyone had experience with the membrane sweep? If so how did it go for you? How terrible was it and did it put you into labor? If so, how long did you have to wait?

I've had 2 membrane sweeps now (one today). They are very uncomfortable, but only takes maybe 2-3 seconds. But think about it, you're going to be pushing a baby out of there soon after so I guess it just gives a small idea of what you're in for in a way. Try reading up as much as you can. My first one didn't take. I've heard it's a 50/50 chance that it'll work. I'm hoping for better progress with this one. I hope it works for you!

I had a membrane sweep at my 39 week appointment last Friday and baby was born Sunday morning just over 48 hours after my sweep. It was painful but it only lasted a few seconds. I feel it was worth it to have done as I was very uncomfortable the last few weeks. Hope this helps, good luck!!!
