smoking

According to the due date calculate I'm 4 weeks. We have been wanting another baby, but wow it happened. Our oldest will be 2 in Feb. My question is, just this year I started smoking so my last pregnancy I didn't have to worry about it. I want the best for my little seed growing in me, but everytime I tell myself this is the last one all j can think about is another cigarette. I don't want meds bit cold turkey isn't working either.

Thank you ladies. Cold turkey wouldn't work. I haven't had a cigarette all day until now. Which is a big achievement. My husband told me not to anymore but at least I'm trying.

I'm around 6 weeks and also a smoker. I was advised not to quit cold turkey as it would send the baby into distress.
I've cut back a lot and I'm down to 5 per day. Going to keep cutting back gradually. Good luck!

I'm a smoker of 20+years. I have 3 children and another on the way. I have switched to the vapor cigarette, which too has side effects, but at least the actual smoke isn't affecting my baby. I smoked through my other pregnancies and was induced with all three because my body wouldn't get any bigger so they all had to come out early. All were normal and fine with no lasting effects. My doctor also told me after many different tactics for quitting that my babies were under undo stress from me trying to quit that it would be better if I continued because of the stress. Best of luck to you.

Thank you that's very good to know. My husband had tried to make me quit the same day we took 3 pregnancy test concluding I'm pregnant. I just couldn't do it.

My Dr told me not to quit cold turkey because it can be harmful to the baby of your bodies reaction to just quitting all at once. I was told to cut back and slowly quit it took me three months before I could totally stop. My son was happy healthy and perfect. Do the best you can. There are risks in everything you do these days. Just try your best.

Congratulations :) I was a smoker too, and I smoked for 6-7 years, I tried and tried to stop smoking but I just couldn't do it! I tried everything but nothing seemed to work, then 5 weeks ago I found out I was pregnant! After nearly two years of trying for a baby I was overwhelmed! I still continued to smoke for a couple of days, but only a couple of puffs from my husbands cigarette 2-3 times a day, then I looked online about the effects off smoking whilst pregnant and quit straight away! There are times when I would like a cigarette but I care for my unborn baby a million times more than a dirty fag! Honestly the best thing you can do is quit, every time you smoke your babies tiny heartbeat has to beat extremely fast as it struggles for oxygen! I'm sure you can do it for your baby! :) good luck in your pregnancy x
