I usually have the tv on but Carter never pays attention to it and when he is on his play mat if we see him watching it we turn it off.
I will at some point allow him to watch limited amounts of tv, not sure when, or how much but I have a friend who's little girl wants nothing to do with the tv and she finds it really hard because she has to be entertained all the time.
Don't know if anyone else's news covered this, but this morning I heard on the news that TV has negative effect on infants and toddlers speech. It was said that they know less words and undersatnd less. There was also comprehension problems in these children. They didn't say an amount or if it was just having it on. It was at 4 this morning when I heard this, ugh morning feedings. Just thought I'd share.
I forgot to actually respond to the question... hahah...
I really don't have an opinion on this. The TV is usually on at night, and I know that she watches sports with John. Seriously... hockey gets her attention! It is hilarious...
I haven't put any children's movies or shows on simply because I never thought about it. As for if it is good or bad, I would have to say, like everything else in life, "In moderation". I don't see why it would cause harm or why it would be a benefit either. Hey... we all need 5 minutes to ourselves, right?
We don't watch tv ourselves so no reason for Phin to. The tv is basically for our game consoles...hmm I think i will use the Wii later today.
Blake watches Noggin in her vibrating chair in the morning. I have to sit herupright while I do chores and I rather she have a kid show on than nothing! I think it stimulates them. She sleeps fine too...She likes to watch and she will squirm when they dance like she is dancing! She coos and is really into it. Also while in her chair she always has her morning poop...haha.
Whitneylauren... I have heard that about Baby Einstein videos! I think it was on like 20/20 or one of those shows a few years ago. Although, my little cousin who is 7 watched those videos and he defintely didn't have speech delay... lol! We don't have any of the videos, but that is good to point out. I don't know... I am still into Raffie (if anyone else remembers how cool he was back in the day! haha)
To add- you may want to google Baby einstein DVD studies. I believe they found a link between those videos and speech delay in young children. Because there is not talking in the movies (with no mouths moving) babies don't learn from them or something
Micah, my four year old, gets to watch one movie a day so when it is on Mark is usually in the room, but I doubt he watches it. We listen to a lot of music from our xbox and there is a funky screen saver that plays during the music- Mark loves to watch that
I have it on during the day for myself. Brock has started to look up and notice it at times. I need to buy the Baby Einstein DVDs so he can start watching something productive.
I didn't vote cause I have it on in the background to keep me sane sometimes or just the news in the am. I have heard once they are a little older not to have it on in the background when they are playing becasue it can cause decresed attention span because they stop playing to watch it. Otherwise MAdy will stare into it from time to time, but not totally interested.
I try and set Noah infront of the tv from time to time and he doesnt seem to be too interested in it! That is too cute tho that hayden laughs at it! I dont see anything wrong with it if its giving you a moment of peace and she likes it! HEY and you cant go wrong with baby Einstein!
