Birthday Party Ideas!

It is almost time for the big party!!!! :) What are you guys planning to do? I would love any ideas on fun activities or fun foods or themes!!

I am thinking of getting a large blow up pool and filling it with balls so they kids can play in there while the adults sit around and (try) to visit. Then do the traditional cake, etc.

What are you ladies thinking? I can't BELIEVE we are having to think about this already!

Alright... so I think I am totally stealing Irish's idea... :)  haha..

So, Leighton's 3rd word was "duck" and she is also totally obsessed with her floating ducks in the bath... and well... in the books as well.  So, as of how... I am pretty sure we will probably do the duck theme.  I know, I know... not really girly, but neither was I as a kid, so I wouldn't expect her to be!

With that as the theme, we will probably do a really low key party with all the traditional "stuff" (cake, ballooons, confetti, food, etc.).  I thought about doing the plastic pool with balls, but we have an ungated pool (it will be gated soon) in our little yard and all of our friends kids are between 4-1 years old and I really don't want to stress about them.  Although, we love the idea of it, but practicality reasons prevent us :(

As for invitees... my parents live up the street, so they will be here and then the rest will be our friends with and without kids :)   I suppose it will mostly be adults! lol

We're doing one party with friends and family.  We're not really having a theme.  I am going to decorate his highchair with 1st birthday stuff and a mat under it.
Another mom I know just had a first b-day party for her son...the pics were so cute!  Her theme was "Winter ONE-derland!"  She had all winter decor.  The had pin the hat on the baby for the kids to play.  She also made a cut winter cutout for the kids to put their heads in and take pics with.  It was cute!
As far as gifts, we got him a Little  People wagon with blocks.  He is getting a wagon from one grandma.
A mom at school is going to make a 3-D teddy bear cake...super cute!  We're having lunch and just keeping a nice, low key party!  It will be lots of fun!

We are only doing one small party for the family. Our place is too small to host more than about 6-8 people and planning anything outside in March isn't good with the unpredictable weather here. We are going with the rubber ducky theme. Jack loves to use his rubber ducky as a pacifier in the tub so I just went from there. I took a few pics and made his birthday card myself...since we are only sending it to a few people it wasn't too much of a hassle. I think I am going to stick with a variety of finger foods for the family to eat instead of a meal. I would make Jack's cake but I don't want to added stress that day. ;) I will find a good bakery and have a small chocolate cake made with a ducky on the front with his name. For the rest of us I will have specialty cupcakes made. I figure since there will only be about 6 or so of us I can spend a bit more on the decore and food. Oh and I went ahead and had a shirt made with a rubber ducky on the front and will iron on his name in felt letters to the back. I think that is about it. Looking forward to the chocolate cake mess. :)

As for a gift, I too was thinking of a tonka truck of sorts...maybe a dump truck. Now all we need is the dirt. I am hoping a house is in our future this summer [housing prices here are so nuts we never know]. :)

We are just going to do one big party. I will make a small personal cake for Mark and a separate one for the guests. I am not going to go overboard or anything. We will probably just play with the Wii and send all the little kids to the playroom.

I did already purchase Mark's birthday gifts though.... I just couldn't help myself. About 2 years ago Costco sold a large wooden kids activity bus (it is huge). It was really expensive new, but I just found it for $30 used, in new condition, on craigslist! So I bought it, used a can of lysol, and put it in the closet for his birthday. I also bought him a ride on tonka truck thingy.

We are doing 2 parties....oi. One for family and one for friends. The family one will be at my mother in laws most likely as she has way more room than we do. The other will be at our place. Simple affairs for both though. Balloons, cake and good times!
