Peanut Butter

Besides all the problems with peanut buteer right now.  My mom was watching that doctors show, and they said it was ok to eat p.b. during pregnancy but not while breastfeeding.  HAs anyone else heard this.  I know you aren't supposed to give it to babies, toddlers, but no one else has heard of not eating it while breastfeeding.  Anyone here hear that?  I will be very sad to hear no P.B. but would like to know.

I saw this on the doctors too...and didnt quite understand why you would not be able to eat it while breastfeeding. I mean if we are able to eat it now why couldnt we eat it then but oh well there is always something.

I have heard of this.  The theory is that you will increase the likelihood of your child having a peanut allergy.  Do I think its true... NO.  But, that is the theory behind it.  I would talk to your pediatrician and find out what his or her thoughts are on it.

I have never heard the peanut butter while breastfeeding thing either. I definately ate a lot of P.B. while nursing my son - all 15 months! I did not eat chocolate or anything else with caffiene. and brocolli, cauliflower and sauerkraut DEFINATELY made him gassy. I think those are the only things I couldn't eat.

I have never heard that. Ask your pediatrician...I know you aren't suppose to give them honey for at least a year and a half because of the allergens or botulism or whatever. I have heard that you shouldn't eat chocolate, brocolli, cauliflower, or cabbage while breast feeding because it will make your baby gassy and fussy.
