Well... I breastfeed, pump, and use formula, but to answer the question, Leighton will eat anywhere from 3-5 oz. every 3-4 hours. We use the rice cereal on occasion (2 tsp. for every 4oz. per our doctors request) when her reflux is really bad and she is just spitting up pure bile. Poor baby :( She doesn't sleep through the night... she is up at 1am and 4am. Ughh... hoping that 4am wake up call will end soon!!! I am still jealous of all you mommy's who get to sleep through the night ;)
Hmm...I think it helps them sleep better. I have noticed that those who say they add rice cereal to their bottles also say their babies sleep through the night..granted there are only a few of us who add the rice cereal. If you want to add rice cereal I would check with your pediatrician just in case they have an opinion about it. I always check with my pediatrician when I am introducing something new to her system because she was so allergic to everything.
empty1 - Rice isn't supposed to be introduced until 4-6 months when it's on a spoon to help babies learn to eat. My ped. told me that the rice really doesn't hold much nutritional value. We have to use it in Brock's bottles because of the reflux and aspirating which can cause the fluid to get into his lungs if he doesn't have it. I tried to back off on it, but he made the aspirating sounds even more when I did. Don't use it if you don't have to. It's not recommended to use to help babies sleep more. The speech therapist said you can add on only about 45 minutes with the rice. Brock sleeps about 9 hours at night so I'm not sure I believe her.
it is rice cereal from gerber. it helps reduce spit ups and reflux. some formulas have it added in already but we add ours. it has helped out so much
Cruz eats 6 oz every 3 hours until 6pm then every 2 hours until 10pm and then he sleeps until 6am and it starts all over again . You guys are putting rice in the bottles? I thought I was supposed to wait until 4 months . What kind of rice do you use?
When Phin nurses he will empty one breast and sometimes take some off of the other. When Chris gives him his bedtime bottle and 1 am bottle he takes 5-6 ounces.
He has put on a little over 4 pounds since birth.
When feeding pumped breast milk Jack will eat anywhere from 3.5oz to 5oz every 3-4 hours. Most days I get one hour for every ounce fed (during the day I don;t like to let him go more than 4 hours without eating). Though lately we are back to the every 3 hour feedings no matter how much he eats. He will go longer if I have to sneak in a 4oz formula bottle every once in a while. I got a 6 hour stretch from him last night with only a 4oz bottle of breast milk.
Carter's feedings vary from 3 1/2oz to up to 6oz. It usually works out to be about 28oz per 24 hours. he is up 2-3x's a nigh to eat, actually he is getting up more now then he use to but it is just to eat and back to sleep and me and DH takes turns
I am guessing Hayden has about 2oz every 2-3 hours
Mark will empty a full breast eat time he feeds (about every 2 hours). I know each of my breast produces about 6 oz of milk (I pump daily). So I am assuming that he eats 6 oz every 2 hours. Don't worry, Mark has doubled his birth weight (he is 12.5 lbs) and only grown 3 inches (22 in) so he is a big chunk right now!
Brock eats 4 oz. of formula with 4 tsp. of rice cereal in his bottle every 3ish hours. He doesn't wake up at night either. He sleeps from about 9:30 p.m. to about 6 or 7 a.m. He is getting chunky though! He was born in the 15th percentile for weight and on May 1st when we went for his 2-month check-up, he was in the 65th percentile! The ped. assured me that you can't have a fat baby! I know it's because of the rice in his bottles, and I tried to back off and do less but he makes the aspirating noises that he made when we went to the speech therapist, so I went back to 4 tsp.
