downs syndrome

Sorry if this is long, but when my doctor asked me if I wanted to do any screening tests I didn't think anything of it and got the nt ultrasound done at 15 weeks and they said my baby had fluid on the neck and to come back well at my antatomy scan they said the fluid decreased but my babies leg bones were a little small which I'm only 5'3 my fiance is 5'5 and everyone in my family is short and they did a blood test to test for downs syndrome well they called two weeks later and said my daughter has down syndrome but I've read up a lot on false positives and if they can actually tell from a blood test that she has down syndrome and I was just curious if anyone else has went through this and I know it doesn't matter but I'm very healthy and I'm only 19

U cud also gofor a nifty test if u do not want to risk an amnioscintesis.....its a blood 5est which confirms down syndrome......ive heard an amnio is a bit risky since they extract  amniotic fluid from ur abdomen with a needle ....

In my first blood screening for this my doctor said that we were at high risk of having downs, so she recommended we do the harmony screening which is 99.9% accurate which test the babies blood abd he came back perfect. I highly recommend getting the harmony screen done

Your age and health dont matter you can be 15 or 50 and still have a baby with down syndrome If you really want to know you should get the amniocentesis done because if the NT didnt come that good then the anatomy scan showed small legs and tested positive for downs their is a big chance your baby might have downs or something else is always better to be prepare and know for sure what is the problem since its not only one thing that shows their can be a problem also is better to know so that your doctors can be prepared and have the medical equipment they will need in case their is a problem.. I have heard of alot of false positives but is usually just 1 thing like the NT or Blood work or ultrasound but the 3 is kind of a red flag anyways i hope everything is good and that at the end you have a healthy baby good luck

I know several people that underwent these test and it said their babies had down syndrome too. They were all perfectly fine at birth. I refused to have the testing done. Stay strong. Good luck

As I understand it, since I too underwent this genetic testing, 2 ultrasounds for nuchAl fold measurements, then 2 sets of lab work which is then sent to a specialist to evaluate. Note: this is for your knowledge so you may prepare mentally and emotionally. Keep your chin up and pray! It works, all is exactly the way it's suppose to be

Downs syndrome is a hurdle not a wall it can be a "handle-able" diagnosis.... there are so many programs that you can get involved with for assistance and education/enrichment... my 11 yo was born "healthy" and has a mild form of autism... I was 19 when I had him and now he is in GATE in school... chin up and you'll do just fine!
