C-Section Questions
Hey everyone as the time is drawing closer I am starting to think of all sorts of stuff....so my question is about c-sections since I'm not sure what to expect during a C-section?? (I'm not necessarily sure that I'll have one but have to be mentally ready for it and know what to expect so I won't freak out)
Please feel free to comment on any experience(s)..from beginning to end...or whatever you want to comment on etc... When they give you the epideral I know you have numbness in your abdomen, but how about your legs and feet?? How long before you can regain feeling again? How long is the procedure??

The epidural makes you numb from the IV site (in your spine) all the way down to your toes. During a c-section they will give you your anesthesia and put a screen up to hide your belly from your view. You can typically have one person (father of baby) in the room, in scrubs.
The anesthesia can make you feel shaky and jittery, even nauseous. Anyway, once they put the screen up they'll expose a small area of your abdomen. It'll be sanitized (with that orange stuff) and they'll make a small incision on your bikini line. They'll basically birth baby from that incision.
They usually let baby peek over the screen before they whisk them to the warmer to clean them up, weigh them, and deep suction them. The deep suction is important to clear all the fluid and mucous so that they can breathe well.
Daddy won't get to cut the cord. But he'll be able to go with baby and take pictures. They'll deliver your placenta in the meantime and sew your uterus up. You'll go into recovery with painkillers and most likely doze for quite a while before you see baby.
I would do some research on c-sections. I recommend nursingbirth.wordpress.com and other similar L&D nurse blogs. They give the full scoop and the nitty gritty on it.

sorry i do not have any experience with c-sections, i think the ephidural numbs you all the way down, that's why you can not get out of bed once you've received one. maybe try posting your question in th epregnancy 18-34 forum if you haven't already, there seems to be more action over there. maybe you'll get more responses
