Jacob Rylan's Birth Story

I'm going to keep this short for my own sake!
Jacob Rylan
7lbs 1oz
18"long
Born at 11:26am October 7th, 2010

Basically I was in labor for about 36 hours. It went from awful to bearable and then back to awful. I was contracting every 3 to 5 minutes and they were killing me. I felt like my scar was tearing (it wasn't of course), but that burning pain in combination with contractions was so intense I could not relax. I decided late the night of the 6th that if I went to the hospital and got checked and I wasn't any more dilated I would just have a repeat c-section. I was very disappointed to hear that I wasn't anymore dilated. I watched the contractions build up and get stronger and stronger on the monitors as I tried to ignore the intensity of the pain.

At 8:30 am on the 7th we decided to go for the repeat section. By 11 they were getting me in for a spinal tap (I had bad luck with the epidural with my son). I was a little anxious because I could still wiggle my toes for quite a while. They did the pinch test and luckily I couldn't feel it. I laid there waiting as my husband recorded with the video camera. I felt like there was a brick on my chest and I got a little panicky. My heart started to beat really hard and I got really panicky. When I asked why my heart was beating so hard the anesthesiologist told me she gave me something to raise my blood pressure as it was getting low.

I tried to relax. My husband said he could see hair. I tried to relax. My husband said the head is out. I tried to relax. The doctor said the baby is out, you'll feel some pressure. Immediately I felt like my heart was exploding. It was like there was a knife being rammed into my chest and twisted in circles. I told them something hurt really bad. They told me to calm down, but it hurt so bad and with the combination of struggling to breathe, I really panicked. I tried to relax when they showed me my beautiful baby, but it hurt so bad. Next thing I know I'm waking up in the recovery room.

My husband comes in all excited saying, "He's hungry get your *** out!" (very classy right?) Jacob nursed like a pro. It was like he magnetically attached! He had to go to the nursery while they got us settled into our room, but as soon as we were settled in, he was back with us. We stayed in the hospital until Sunday afternoon.

Breastfeeding got a little difficult because Jacob wouldn't open up wide enough to get a good latch and I was getting too raw to continue that way so we are pumping and feeding. He eats like a champ! His discharge weight was 6lbs 6oz and at his one week checkup he was up to 7lbs 2 ozs!
