I had a family dr (who couldn't do c-sections) for my first pregnancy, I like him since I knew him for many years, however I felt he didn't know as much as I had wished, For the second pregnancy I had an OB, and felt that they missed the mark big time, no tests in the trimester or anything. Brown spotting (VERY SMALL AMOUNT) lead to an ultrasound that figured out it was a missed miscarriage. Had he taken blood tests like I thought were normal, then we would have known what was going on.
SO, I decided to shop around, and ended up with a CNM whom I love and wish I had been with her at first. A CNM seems to spend more time with you than an OB, however if you meet them and ask specific questions I"m sure you'd find an OB who's just as good as many of the CNM.
I love my CNM so much I plan to see her for all my yearly exams, etc.
it's all about what you want! Sounds to me like if you want it all natural, you can talk to doctors and midwife's in your area, and see which one is best for you. Find out what they will allow, and if you can chose your own birthing plan (no meds, tub available (if they have one), that your baby will remain with you in the room, etc.) whatever you want you birthing plan to be. :) Good luck!
