2nd ear infection....is this normal??

Ok so Brandon was a little stuffy and with a runny nose. He was very fussy and was not eating as usual. We have been snowed in for about a week and the doc office was closed. I called this morning and they FINALLY opened the office to I rushed myself over there. Come to find out Brandon has yet another ear infection and he is only 5 months! I mean, gees, He barely leaves the house and is not around kids that are ill...how did he get another ear infection??? I am extremely careful when giving him a bath and don't get any water in his ears so I'm not sure how he got it. The doc says if he keeps getting them they have to put ear plogs in.

Has anyone had this issue before? Is this normal? I am freaking out here. Any suggestions ladies on how or what I can do to prevent ear infections from reoccuring?

Hey Air,

I know certain positions, when bottle feeding, can also cause ear infections.  Make sure, if you are bottle feeding, that he is not flat but at an angle/inclined position.  There is something about them laying flat on their back, and drinking from a bottle, that can also cause the ear infections.

I am sorry you are having problems with this.  Mary has been sick a lot too.  And I think you are right.  I think it's the time of year we had our babies.  I wish I had timed it better too.  LOL!  I hate when it's hot, but in a way, I can't wait so maybe she will stay healthier as well.

Best of luck!

Thanks Latrice. What you have told me is what I have also read. My DH, stepson, and I are always washing out hands before handling the baby. No one in the house smokes and he is never around anyone that smokes either. I'm thinking he got it from the runny nose/cold he started to get. I'm just so sick of the winter...next time i won't have a baby during the flu season. LOL. he is feeling better today but still fussy and very needy. I feel so bad for him =(

Sorry to hear about Brandon being sick again.  From what i can remember ear infections can occur because of fluid, and kids can get them after having a cold.  And they can get inflammation of the ear(middle ear i think) baby being around smoke can cause it, its a few other factors but i cant think at the moment.  Make sure you are washing your hands, and everyone else b4 handling the baby.

Its so hard to predict how are little ones are getting sick.   My mom smokes and i kept wondering why in the hell is Trinity breaking out on her face, from my mom holding her with all that smoke on her clothes, and it only happens when we are over there, so now i dont go over there as often and when i do i put vasaline on her face lol.  It helps though.

Just write down some questions and ask the dr his suggestions.  maybe the other moms have a little more insite for you, i dont remember DS every having a ear infection just colic real bad
