Baby Clothes

This may seem like a silly question, but how long do babies usually wear 0-3 month clothes.  I know that a lot of depends on how big the baby is at birth, but I would love to hear what some of your experiences have been (those of you that have little ones already).

DS6 wore newborn clothes for about a week...he was 8 lbs when was born...as for 0-3 months it wasnt that long either...i cant remember exactly...i know the weight is the way to go...

i have been buying 0-3 months outfits as im out shopping...i figured babies are changed multiple times a day and having 2 weeks of outfits should be good until the baby shower...its really hard to judge how long babies will be wearing clothes...im at super high risk for a premature baby but if i go full term then ill most likely have a 7-8 lb baby since i know i will be indcued a week or 2 early

I personally do not have any children yet (am 14 weeks pregnant now) but my sister had two children and they wore some of their 0-3 months things until they were 3 months.  She said that some tend to be a little smaller than others so they grew out of a certain name brand faster.  Check the weights on the tags and see what they say because I think a lot of the 0-3months go up to 12lbs which should last almost up until they are 3 months.  I know I only got a few newborn outfits but only like 2 and I don't anticipate my baby being in them for too long but I figured I should have something just in case.

   Hello,
It would certainly have a lot to do with the Birth Weight as well as the babies growth.
I have (5) children ranged from 8lbs 3 oz   to 7 lbs 5oz......so the 0 - 3 mnths did not last very long!

When I buy baby clothes for someone at a baby shower I always buy the 3-6 mnth size.
Be Well,

My baby girl was 7 lbs when she was born and she wore her newborn clothes until she was maybe 2 weeks old. Then I had to switch her to 0-3 stuff. If you have a really tiny baby they'll obviously stay in the smaller clothes longer. it also depends on you and the baby's father. If you're really big people (tall) your baby might be the same way, I've seen 5 month old babies the same size as 10 month old babies, his parents were both tall and athletic built people though. Hope this helps a little...

I'd say count on 2-3 weeks for your baby to fit in new born stuff. And the 0-3 stuff, just plan for it to fit till 3 months. it might not, but that's ok!

Thanks everyone - this helped.  Having a September baby It makes it harder to plan, as I am in New York and it will start getting chilly in late Sep/early October.  So, the 3-6 month stuff I get will probably have to be warmer stuff,  I am due Sept 2nd and may very well end up with an August baby.   .

I'm due sept 2 nd and have a feeling she will be an august baby.

Everything in the stores is summer clothes and so cute but I don't want to purchase because I have no idea what size she will be next summer. It starts cooling down here mid September so I will need warmer clothes for her.

In my experience (4 kids so far) MINE don't stay in their clothes long at all.  None of mine were overly large when they were born.  The biggest being 7 lbs 15 oz.  Typically they stayed in newborn size until anywhere from 2-4 weeks then moved to 0-3 mos.  Some of the 0-3 mos clothes they could only wear until about 2 mos but others they could wear til 5 mos.  It really depends on how fast your individual child grows and who the manufacturer is.  Some manufacturers sizes run bigger or smaller than the typical "0-3 mos" or whatever.
