26 weeks! Small bump big baby

im currently 26 weeks pregnant that's start of 7months already. I'm a first time mum and all these weeks been worried about my baby not being big enough because everybody would be looking at my bump and going no way your 7months you hardly even look pregnant!' And it's true I really don't look it much. So it had me so worried every time so. I got a check up with the hospital and my midwife and everything seemed to be amazingly perfect. Baby was even a whole cm bigger than she was supposed to be. So I asked why the small tummy? And my midwife reAssued me everything is good and that I had strong tummy muscles which is actually something to be proud of. (Never thought I'd have that) but yeah Bascially that's what keeping baby all tucked in and tummy not hanging everywhere. Also the fact that I am a first time mum. Just wanted to share this Cus I know how us women all like to compare bumps and it gets worrying if everyone else seems so big and you so small. But there you go. Just make sure you ask your midwife or hospital

I know how u feel was tiny for the first 8 months with my first, everyone commenting on how small the baby was going to be and my baby ended up well above average she weighed 9pounds 6oz! So don't worry as long as baby is healthy!
This is my second pregnancy and total opposite I'm huge this time round!

Ahhhhhh. Finally found one of these other charts. I see what they are doing. They've made a grammatical error in a couple. But mostly they've used different terminology.

Warning: maths and grammar lesson ahead. Read at your own peril of death by boredom and confusion.

The charts on baby2see.com that I just read are right in saying you are in your first month of pregnancy during the first 4 weeks. They are right in saying you are in month 1. But they are wrong in saying you are 1 month pregnant before you hit 4 weeks. Just as a 6 month old baby is in its 1st year of life, or in year 1, but is not actually classed as 1 year old until it hits its first birthday.

So as with defining age, at 5 weeks we are therefore into our 2nd month of pregnancy but technically called 1 month and 1 week pregnant. So at 27 weeks we are into our 7th month of pregnancy, but we are technically called 6 months pregnant. We will technically be 7 months pregnant at 31 weeks (but beginning our 8th month of pregnancy or in month 8).

So it depends on how you phrase your sentence... If you use words like "I'm into" or "I'm in" with an ordinal number - "my 2nd month", 3rd month, 7th month etc, or a nominal number - "month 2", month 3, month 7 etc, it will come across as ONE MONTH HIGHER than if you are using words like "I am" or "I'll be" with a cardinal number (quantity) - "1 month along", 2 months, 6 months etc.

E.g. I am 29 years old (cardinal) but I'm actually in my 30th year of life (ordinal). Or I'm in year 30 (nominal). All of those are correct, but if someone asks me how old I am, I say 29.

Hope no one bothered to read all that and get too annoyed. I found it interesting but I love linguistics plus think I'm borderline aspergus. Happy pregnancies people!

This is what I read...
http://www.baby2see.com/timeline.html

Breaks it down mathematically and lines up with the chart I used off www.babycenter.com. I'm gonna stick with logic and mathematics on this one small conflict that doesn't change anyone's pregnancy anyway. Other people are free to use whatever charts they like!

? It's exactly the same as what I just wrote.  Baby2see says 7 months starts at 31 weeks too. Still dunno where this 27 week marker that everyone's talking about is coming from. Anyway, however people work it out at least the weeks are consistent enough!

So in your countries are you technically pregnant for 10, almost 11 months? I've never heard of this way of calculating. As in 7 months for you is 27 weeks, 8 months is 31 weeks, 9 months is 35 wks, 10 months is 39 weeks, and 11 is 43 weeks (but you generally have your baby by at least week 42, so you wouldn't quite get to 11 months).

In my country we go by a month being 30 to 31 days (4.3 weeks long on average). And they're rounded off to the nearest week, meaning some months have a catch up week, making them 5 weeks. Here's the chart used:
0 months: weeks 1, 2, 3, 4
1 month: week 5, 6, 7, 8
2 months: week 9, 10, 11, 12, 13
3 months: week 14, 15, 16, 17
4 months: week 18, 19, 20, 21
5 months: week 22, 23, 24, 25
6 months: week 26, 27, 28, 29, 30
7 months: week 31, 32, 33, 34
8 months: week 35, 36, 37, 38
9 months: week 39, 40, 41, 42
So we are due somewhere at 9 months.

Tarajean, A month is a little longer than 4 weeks (only Feb has exactly 4 weeks). It's 4.3 on average. Which actually adds up quite a lot. You can have a look at official pregnancy charts. I just did as it's confusing. 26 weeks is what they count as the very start of 6 months. And 31 weeks is when they count the start of 7 months.

26 weeks is 6 and a half months. By 24 weeks we've been pregnant for 6 months

Actually 26 weeks is about the end of 5 months, start of 6 months. The months kinda go different on pregnancy charts. Adding up the days, 7 months would come at about 31 weeks... Not sure what it is on official pregnancy charts... So people are probably saying you look 5 or 6 months coz you ARE still 5 or 6 months!
