gender snobs - rant

My husband and I bought our first outfit for our baby today. We are having a girl and super excited about it. That being said neither of us are into pink things or frilly girly stuff. If my daughter wants that when she is old enuff to choose then no problem but until then we are going to dress her how we want. Our nursery theme is wild animals....elephants, giraffes,  monkeys, ect.

Today while shopping we found the cutest white gown with an elephant and a bear on it and some adorable little crochet socks with a monkey face. I bought both and as the sales lady rang us up she said "oh you must be having a lil boy". I just smiled and said nope...but inside I was so irritated. I dunno what screemed boy clothes on this very gender neutral, sweet outfit except perhaps the blue trim on the socks...but i couldn't help but be annoyed.

I guess its just something we will have to get used to because I refuse to buy into some silly nonsense like my child must wear frilly pink stuff just because she is a girl. Sigh.

There are still people who say oh he's cute and I'm like yes SHE is. Even if you dress her in all pink it'll still happen trust me

Lol you sound just like me. My daughter's nursery theme was safari and i refused to play into the pink thing. The next theme will be the same in the nursery since it's gender neutral

We are having a forest friends nursery if we have a girl or boy. I'm from southern iowa. All of us girls grew up in the woods hunting and fishing. Plus the nursery is just so cute with baby deer and fox.

Im not into pink frilly things either. Dont know what I am having yet but I have noticed that most of the things I think are gender neutral,  most people think boy. But im glad to see another mom that isnt going to push for pink and frilly. Very cool;)

So the pink/blue was made by Macy's I believe in the 1940s (I think around that time) to sell more clothes for boys and girls. I do not plan on finding out what I have. But I LOVE blue. We plan on painting the nursery a very light blue and doing a Noah's ark theme. It'll probably appear my "boy" themed, but whatever!
